GET TO KNOW HANNAH MEYER
Hannah Meyer is Red Wing High School’s newest teacher, having joined the team as the second semester began. She brings a love for learning along with a degree in work-based 9-12 learning and agriculture education.
What are your hopes as you join Red Wing Public Schools?
To connect others to agriculture. There are so many different opportunities within agriculture. Helping students -- or community members -- realize some of these is my goal.
When did you realize that you wanted to teach?
During my senior year of high school, I was helping teach a novice parliamentary procedure team for my FFA chapter. As I worked with them I found a lot of joy, watching them grow, learning from their mistakes, and working hard to get better. I also had an awesome role model with my high school agriculture teacher. With everything he did for the different classes I was taking, he inspired me to want to teach agriculture.
What has stood out for you the first few weeks?
How supportive the school has been. I have had many different people come in and check in on me, and offer me support, which I have been very thankful for.
So a bit about me … ?
I just graduated from Southwest Minnesota State University this December, with my degree in agriculture education. I originally am from southcentral Minnesota, where I grew up on my family's farm, raising pigs, cattle, corn, soybeans, and pumpkins. I like traveling all over Minnesota and seeing different state parks.
School Readiness Survey
We're halfway through the survey window
Red Wing Public Schools is surveying the community about school readiness. Readiness is about whether kindergartners have the basic skills and supports that help them feel confident and ready to learn in a classroom.
Everyone's input matters as we work together to support our youngest learners.

Building Instructional Capacity in Data Science
EARLY MOMENTUM TOWARD FLIGHT PATH 2030
On Feb. 13, Red Wing Public Schools launched the Dataspire Trailblazers 2025-2026 training with grades 6–12 staff, building foundational capacity in data literacy and data-informed instruction. This introductory work to deepen students' data visualization and data-based conclusion skills directly supports the district’s Portrait of a Graduate, particularly the AI-Ready and Technologically Literate Innovator competency, which emphasizes computational thinking, data literacy, and the responsible use of emerging technologies.
This effort aligns with RWPS’s selection as one of 11 districts nationally to participate in the DS4E K-12 Data Partners Program (winter 2026), providing access to national expertise, research-informed practices, and a peer network focused on strengthening data science education. Partnerships with Dataspire and Data Science 4 Everyone (DS4E) represent early, intentional steps within Flight Path 2030, RWPS’s long-term roadmap to becoming a Center of Excellence in AI-Integrated Computing Education, inclusive of foundational data literacy and data science.

A rocking roller coaster of a lesson
Nick Richmond's grade 6 STEAM students spent the past week designing and building roller coasters. Working in groups of two, they used paper-based materials to send a marble shooting up, down and around. TBMS staff will vote on the most creative and well-built designs this week.
Our Solar Lab is online and generating
The Twin Bluff DIY Lab added a solar station this winter, enabling middle school students to learn about and use this renewable energy resource powered by the sun. Knobelsdorff, Van Meter Inc., Red Wing Public Schools Foundation and Xcel Energy Foundation helped to make this possible.

Do you know your history about Black History Month?
Burnside and Sunnyside students have daily lessons related to Black History Month. In 1976, President Gerald Ford proclaimed the nationally recognized observance for every February. This evolved from "Negro History Week," founded by Dr. Carter G. Woodson in February 1926, which was expanded to a full month by activists and students at Kent State University in 1970.
