Halloween Parties
Halloween Safety
Officer Jayden Brotton, with the Washington County Sheriff's Office, stopped by the school on Monday to read a book to our elementary and discuss the importance of safety while trick or treating.
Preschool Builds Scarecrow
On Tuesday, our Preschoolers enjoyed reading “The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything.” After the story, the children brought it to life by reenacting the different parts that scared the little old lady—shoes that went clomp, clomp, pants that went wiggle, wiggle, and more! Together, they used all of the story pieces to build their very own scarecrow. It was a fun and engaging way to connect literacy with hands-on creativity!
4th Grade Pumpkin Patch
Book of the Month
On Thursday, our students read "Frank was a Monster Who Wanted to Dance" by Keith Graves. Jazlyn Camacho and Samuel Howland were the winners of the free book.
NHS Induction
Last Thursday, we celebrated the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony, highlighting excellence. We are incredibly proud of these ten remarkable new members who embody leadership, scholarship, service, and character. The new inductees are Kendal Zimmerman, Kashlee Randel, Mikenna Weers, Malia Dracon, Aubree Bulik, Zachary Bowin, RyLee Bacon, Estrella Arteaga, and Brigid Ardrey. Last year's members, who assisted in welcoming the newcomers, included Alexis Anchando, Alia Winter, Shirley West, Taylor Benish, Chloe Farmer, Alex Galindo, and Caleb Hansen.
The advisors for the National Honor Society are Christine Bowin and Laura Loutensock.
Akron Mechatronics Students Tour Leprino Cheese Factory
On October 27, Mr. Schoenecker’s Mechatronics class toured the Leprino Foods plant in Fort Morgan, where students saw how automation drives one of the largest cheese producers in the world. The facility produces about 500,000 pounds of mozzarella each day, contributing to Leprino’s status as the main supplier for many national pizza and restaurant chains.
Students followed the process from raw milk to packaged cheese, observing how mechanical systems, sensors, and robotics work together to maintain precision and efficiency. The visit highlighted how mechatronics (combining mechanics, electronics, and computer control) is essential in industries like food production.
Mr. Schoenecker noted that seeing automation in action helped students connect classroom lessons to real-world careers in industrial technology and engineering.
CU World of Science
Members of our 5th grade recently attended an exciting science event hosted at NJC and presented by CU Science Discovery. This year’s theme, “World of Waves,” gave students the opportunity to explore the fascinating science of waves through hands-on activities and models. They investigated how waves connect to Earth science concepts, discovered what happens to sound in a vacuum, and explored the visible and invisible parts of the light spectrum.
We’d like to extend a special thank you to NE BOCES for making this annual event possible and providing our students with such an engaging learning experience!
Staff Portraits
Ms. Hottinger and her art classes have been busy capturing the faces of our staff through their incredible sketches! Stop by to check out the artistic talents of our students and see how they’ve brought our school community to life on paper.
October Literacy Challenge
We’re excited to celebrate the second group of students who completed the Akron Elementary October Literacy Challenge! Across both rounds, a total of 84 students participated—and every single one earned a prize for achieving a bingo!
Students who went the extra mile and completed a blackout received a special reading medal to honor their dedication and love of reading.
This challenge was a celebration of literacy, and we’re so proud of every student who took part. A heartfelt thank you to our families for supporting reading at home—your encouragement makes all the difference.
Keep reading, Akron Stars!
