Principal's Update

🌟 Welcome to Week 11, Stone Middle School Families, Students, and Staff! 🌟

As we step into Week 11, we continue to be inspired by the energy and commitment of our school community.

Last Friday, our Student Voice Committee met with administration and shared some fantastic ideas to help shape the future of our school. Their input is invaluable, and we’re excited to explore their suggestions in the weeks ahead!

This week, we kick off Red Ribbon Week, a time to celebrate healthy choices and stand united against substance abuse. Let’s show our spirit and support through the themed activities planned throughout the week!

🎃 Looking ahead, we’re thrilled for the upcoming Halloween Dance—a fun and festive way to celebrate the season together. Costumes, music, and memories await!

📚 And don’t forget—Fast Track Saturday is happening this weekend! It’s a great opportunity for students to catch up, get ahead, or receive extra support in a focused environment.

If your student needs transportation, please contact Mr. Shannon Sejeck at Sejeck.Shannon@brevardschools.org.

Let’s make it a great week together!

Dear Families,

The full Parent and Family Engagement Plan is available on our school website: Documents | Stone Magnet Middle. This plan explains how our school partners with parents and families to support student learning and strengthen home–school connections.

We encourage you to review it and see the many ways families can get involved in helping every child succeed.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact us at Jenny Gates at gates.jennifer@brevardschools.org.

Thank you for your continued partnership!

Cellphone Free Learning Environments are Important! Cellphone Free Learning Environments are Important!

Starting the 2025-2026 school year, all K-8 schools are personal electronics free per state statue. Personal electronics include cellphones, headphones, tablets, etc. As Principal of Stone Middle School an electronic free campus is important to me. Cellphone and other electronics may be silenced in backpacks to not distract the learning. Students must secure all electronic devices in backpacks before coming on campus and may use their phones after the dismissal bell. This past summer, I read "The Anxious Generation" by Jonathan Haidt and would like to share information from this book regarding teen use of electronics.

"Synchronous, face-to-face, physical interactions and rituals are a deep, ancient and underappreciated part of human evolution. Adults enjoy them, and children need them for healthy development. Yet major social media platforms draw children into endless hours of asynchronous interaction, which can become more like work than play. Most teams have account on multiple platforms, and those who use social media regularly spend two hours a day or more on social media sites. By 2014, nearly a third of teen girls were spending over 20 hours a week on social media sites. That's half of a full-time job--creating content for the platform and consuming content created by others. That is time no longer available for interacting with friends in person. The work is often joyless, yet many feel compelled to do it, lest they miss out on thing or be excluded. Eventually it becomes a mindless habit, something they turn to dozens of times each day." p57-58

Brevard Public Schools

TO SERVE EVERY STUDENT WITH EXCELLENCE AS THE STANDARD

launch brevardschools.org

Attendance Calls Attendance Calls

Starting this year, two automated calls will be scheduled to families regarding students' attendance. A morning call between 11:00 am and 11:15 am will take place to alert families of an absence in the morning to help verify a student arrived to school. An additional call will be generated between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm to share with families a student's overall attendance for the day. Please remember attendance is crucial for a student's academic success.

Attendance Matters! Attendance Matters!

Stone Magnet Middle School will adhere to the School Board Rules of Brevard County as cited in the Secondary Student Parent Handbook.

These are the portions most frequently referred to by parents, students, and school personnel.

The educational program offered by this District is predicated upon the presence of the student and requires continuity of instruction and classroom participation. Attendance shall be required of all students enrolled in the school during the days and hours that the school is in session.

School attendance is the responsibility of parents/legal guardians and students.

  • A student who is absent from class with an unexcused absence may need to complete supplemental learning opportunities.
  • Excused absences may include medical appointment of the student, pregnancy related issues, court dates, religious holidays, illness with medical documentation and chronic and extended illness, insurmountable conditions, death in immediate family, and appointments for a therapy service provided by a licensed health professional.
  • For excused absences, the student shall have a reasonable amount of time, up to ten (10) school days, to complete make-up work. Principals or designee may grant extensions to the make-up time limit for extenuating circumstances.
