Ready? Set. Skills!
Being able to identify, communicate and prove your skills is essential! Knowing your skills can help you explore different career options that match your abilities and interests. This can be especially useful as you start thinking about what you might want to do after high school.
Need some help?
If you struggle with identifying your skills, you are not alone. Some studies have indicated that 80-85% of people cannot identify, sell and prove their skills during the job search process.
- Help yourself identify your skills by thinking about what someone else would say about your skills. What would your teacher, supervisor, peer, parent or friend say are your skills?
- Think about the tasks you do regularly and break them down into specific skills. For example, if you help with household chores, you might have time management and teamwork skills.
