Sustainability
“If you get tired, learn to rest, not to quit.”
This philosophy—that rest is a tool for resilience, not a reward for exhaustion—is the driving force behind this week's content. Sustainable high performance is about managing that energy.
Fatigue is real, but remember, the goal is not to quit. As you go through this newsletter, I expand on my personal thoughts about how we can adopt this mindset across our work and learning.
You will find my reflections on integrating sustainable energy cycles for this week you can use throughout the year, along with key insights for maintaining motivation.

Recap of the Week!
✨🎶2025 ALL STATE CHORUS🎶✨
The Shelby-Rising City Music Department is proud to announce that Kasey Fischbach and Nevaeh Martinez have been selected to represent our school in the 2025 Nebraska Music Education Association All-State Chorus! Being selected as a member of this ensemble is among the highest musical honors a student can achieve in the state. This honor recognizes their incredible talent, hard work, and dedication as musicians.
The All State Chorus will be under the direction of Dr. Pearl Shangkuan, a highly sought-after conductor, lecturer and clinician who has led performances and workshops on six continents. Rehearsals will take place from Thursday, November 20 through Saturday, November 22 in Lincoln. The event will culminate in a public concert at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 22 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts, UNL campus.
Congratulations to the both of you! We are incredibly proud of your achievement!
2026 NCDA Singing Youth of Nebraska! 🎶
Congratulations to our freshman, Paxton Cromer, on her acceptance into the 2026 NCDA Singing Youth of Nebraska!
Paxton earned this honor through a successful audition and will perform along with other talented students from across the state. The Honor Choir concert will take place on January 31, 2026, in Hastings.
Activities Banquet on December 7th
After careful consideration of all teams and coaches, the Fall Activities Banquet will be MOVED to December 7, at 6:00pm. The SRC Booster club will provide a sandwich meal and the four fall teams will present.
We understand changing the banquet this late can be an inconvenience to some, but we truly appreciate the communities flexibility and support as we navigate this new banquet style. We want all athletes and coaches to be done with the season, postseason awards to be out, and every fall sport to be together.
We thank you for your continued support and hope to see you at the fall seasonal banquet.
Thank you!

✨Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST)✨
Congratulations goes to our own Becky Schueth who has been named a State Finalist for this award!
This is the highest honors bestowed by the United States government specifically for K-12 science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science teaching. Awards are given to science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science teachers who have both deep content knowledge of the subjects they teach and the ability to motivate and enable students to be successful in those areas.
Mrs. Schueth is currently teaching high school mathematics here at SRC. This is her 11th year at S-RC and I teach Geometry, Technical Math, College Algebra, PreCalculus and Calculus. Becky has 20 years of experience in teaching and she began her career at Columbus High School. Mrs. Schueth Bachelor’s (2005) and Master’s (2009) degrees are from Wayne State College. Message for the Week:
Message from Mr. Tejkl
Rest, Don't Quit...
Good morning!
I hope your Sunday is off to a great start and your weekend was a great one! I want to say how proud I am of our school and our communities. We continue to represent SRC with great pride and others take notice. Even when things may not go our way, we have grown in respecting others and not letting our emotions overtake our actions. It has been great to see the evolution!
Now onto today's quote! You are not a machine built to run constantly; you need careful management. Sustainable high performance is achieved through consistent replenishment, not just brute force. Rest should not be viewed as downtime, but as a critical investment in your next productive cycle. When we feel the strain, the most effective solution is rarely pushing harder, but pausing smarter. This is why we must prioritize integrating sustainable energy cycles. We can learn from high-output environments that promote the micro-break—those 5–10 minute intentional pauses between tasks or meetings that maximize focus and prevent burnout. At any level, our commitment to long-term innovation requires pauses for deep reflection, ensuring our decisions are visionary, not rushed.
When tiredness tries to make us quit, we must adjust, not abandon the ship. If a goal feels overwhelming, we can practice reframing the challenge by asking, "What small piece of this can I complete in the next 15 minutes?" That small progress defeats the urge to quit. Maintaining motivation also means constantly defining your 'Why.' When pressure mounts, reconnecting with your original purpose acts as the compass that keeps us moving forward.
Our collective motivation is fueled by The Value of Visible Commitment: seeing the incremental progress of our shared effort reminds us that perseverance is our greatest asset, and we must sustain it together.
What is your true reset button? Make the investment; your future self will thank you.
Have a great rest of your Sunday!
Quote of the week to reflect on:
"If you get tired, learn to rest, not to quite"
Banksy
Sincerely,
Tucker Tejkl
