Key Takeaways from Dr. Po-Shen Loh's Visit
We were delighted to host a truly inspiring day of lecture and a Parent Night featuring the renowned mathematician and educational innovator, Dr. Po-Shen Loh. His thought-provoking presentations centered on preparing students not just for college or a career, but for a future defined by rapid change, collaboration, and the enduring strength of human character.
Developing Durable Human Qualities
Dr. Loh emphasized that in a world increasingly augmented by AI, it is the durable and unique human qualities that truly matter. He challenged us to help students cultivate a deep love of thinking and a commitment to moral action.
Navigating the Age of AI
Dr. Loh framed the rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence as a call to action for human development.
"Three years ago, no AI. Now AI can make movies, do math, [and serve as a] human companion."
With AI taking over many computational and even creative tasks, the nature of future jobs is shifting dramatically—"The jobs of the future do not exist." This technological shift makes the core human qualities mentioned above more critical than ever.
Dr. Loh’s visit was an invaluable reminder that while academic excellence is important, cultivating a student’s character, ethical compass, and fundamental love of thought is the most powerful preparation we can offer for the world they will inherit.

CalKIDS Program
The California Kids Investment and Development Savings Program (CalKIDS) was launched in 2022 by the State of California with a clear mission: make it easier for more children to save for their future education.
Administered by the ScholarShare Investment Board, CalKIDS takes the initiative by automatically offering newborns and eligible low-income public school children in California an initial seed deposit, along with other potential financial incentives. This ensures that they can start their college and career savings journey right from the beginning. TVUSD students who qualified have at least $500 in their CalKids account, and some might have more. Here are the steps students need to take to claim their account:
