WEEKLY HAWK
April 13-17, 2026
Message from Mrs. Lloyd
Hello Homestead Families,
Last week our 3rd and 5th graders really displayed the "W" in HAWKS by working hard! 5th grade completed CMAS ELA and Math and 3rd Grade completed ELA. These important tests are long and require a lot of perseverance and hard work. I'm proud of our Hawks for focusing and putting their best effort forward. We still have more testing to complete, but we are off to a great start!
One of the big highlights of the week was the Talent Show! We had 22 acts including piano players, singers, bands, a rubix cube solver, comedians, a roller skater, gymnasts, and a rope climber - the day time performance even included a spectacular synchronized swimming routine from the Homestead Staff! It was truly amazing. One of the things I talked about at Coffee with the Principal was giving our students more opportunities to be independent and do things where adults often step in. By the evening Talent Show, it was exclusively run by our three awesome 4th grade MCs and our 3 wonderful stage crew students. The performers knew their cues and the MCs and stage crew made everything else flow. I am so proud of all of the hard work of each and every kid and can't wait to continue developing opportunities for independent success!
I want to give another quick highlight to our Librarian, Geniella. She has worked so hard to make the space more welcoming. This week, students were able to choose from a TON of new books. Students lit up when they saw the new selection! The ability to purchase all of these new books for our library comes from all of the Scholastic dollars earned from our Fall book fair!
Tuesday afternoon we will welcome our newest Hawks at Kindergarten orientation and on Friday this week, we will have Donuts with GrownUps on the front lawn. A few things below that I also want to highlight - Ms. Brownell is planning Field Day and could use your support! Please consider signing up below! Additionally, on April 21 we will have our evening PTCO meeting at 6pm. Before that meeting at 5pm, our NSS department will be hosting an informational meeting about the NSS program - all are invited to learn more!
Looking forward to another fun week!
Take care,
Katie

Field Day
Dear Parents,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to inform you that this year's field day will feature an inflatable bounce course and inflatable dry slide as one of the activity stations for the students. To ensure the safety of all participants, it is necessary for each student to have a waiver completed, including their name and your signature, to participate in the bounce course.
Please note that if I do not receive the signed waiver, your child will be unable to participate in this station during field day. The waiver has been provided in your child's Friday folder (and attached below as well). Kindly ensure that your child returns the completed waiver to their classroom teacher, who will then forward it to me.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Best regards,
Ms. Brownell

A note about 3-D artwork display and selections for district art shows:
It is that time of year when many students are working in three dimensions. Display space is significantly limited, which means not every student’s 3-D artwork will be shown. In addition, we are celebrating some students who have work in the district art show. Your child might feel disappointed if their work is not on display. This is an opportunity to help your child learn how to process disappointment. Your child is a wonderful artist and perhaps their artwork will be selected in the future.
From the NSS (GT) Department
Join us for an informative NSS (GT) Parent Meeting at Homestead Elementary on Tuesday, April 21st from 5:00–6:00 PM, hosted by Mr. Hoopes and Mrs. Key. During this session, we will share an overview of gifted services, including the identification process, the range of support and differentiated learning opportunities offered, and what families can expect throughout the year. Our goal is to make this time helpful and supportive, so we’ll also provide space for your questions and conversation. We look forward to partnering with you and hope to see you there!
From the Library......
- If you received an overdue notice or have questions about a lost book from the Homestead Library, please contact Geniella Lester at gputman@cherrycreekschools.org.

Hawks Nest Summer Camp
Dear Homestead community,
We have the chance to keep plastic film out of landfills! This spring during Earth Month, our school is hosting a Ridwell recycling drive. You’re invited to bring your used plastic film (ziptop bags, grocery bags, bubble wrap, and lots more) to school from April 15 to April 22 and Ridwell will make sure it stays out of landfills. Start collecting plastic film now so you have a bunch to bring during the drive!
This info sheet explains what plastic film is and why it’s hard to recycle, and this video shows a ton of examples. All the plastic film we collect during the drive will be turned into Trex decking!
Curious about Ridwell at-home recycling pickup? They collect hundreds of common household items you can’t recycle curbside, like plastic food packaging, lightbulbs, clothes, Styrofoam, and more. You can help the school earn rewards if you sign up for a household membership by May 22. We’ll earn pickup of the school’s plastic film for the entire ‘26/’27 school year when 10 new members sign up.
To get students excited, there will be a grade-level competition at our school. The grade level with the most plastic film collected during that week will earn an extra recess and an ice cream treat! Each grade will collect as much plastic film as possible. The grade level that has the most film (determined by weight) will be the winner!
Thank you!
From,
Your Student Council

ATTENTION: All Volunteers at Homestead
Colorado legislation has prompted greater need to screen and document volunteers in our schools. As of January 2022, we began asking every volunteer to complete a brief application to support activities in CCSD schools.
If you are currently volunteering or plan to volunteer in the future, please complete the CCSD online volunteer form. To access the form, click on the following link: https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/NzU0OmVuLVVT or scan the QR code. It should only take a few minutes to complete and you will only need to complete this form once a year to meet the requirements to volunteer in all CCSD buildings.
Please note: if you completed this application more than one year ago, it is time to do it again!
The safety and security of our students and staff remains our top priority. Every person entering our buildings must have a badge printed from our Raptor system or a District ID.
We want to thank you in advance for your support of our schools and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Homestead main office at 720.554.3700.
