A Note from the Nurse A Note from the Nurse

Some Reminders from the Nurse’s Office

  • If your child has a fever, please keep them home until their temperature is less than 100 degrees for 24 hours without medication.
  • Do not send a child to school who has been vomiting during the night or in the morning before school. It takes more than a few hours to recuperate from an intestinal ailment. This is best for your child and reduces the exposure to other students.
  • If your child has an injury requiring a cast, brace, crutches, or other supportive devices, PLEASE ask their doctor for a note listing activity restrictions while at school. Contact the nurse’s office before your child returns to school.
  • Please consider sending in spare clothing and underwear for your child. Accidents and spills happen every day! They can be kept at the nurse’s office or classroom. We also accept donations of clothes for students who do not have spare clothes at school.
Required exams:
  • Dental exams are required for Kindergarten and again in third grade.
  • Physical exam required upon entry to kindergarten.
  • OR for transferring students if exams were not completed or sent from their prior school. Reminder letters will be sent if we do not have the necessary forms on file.

  • Medication (prescription or over the counter) cannot be given at school without a doctor’s order/ note. Medication must be in a labeled pharmacy container.

Visit from the Fire Department

Last week, Kindergarten enjoyed a visit from our local fire fighters! We learned to stop, drop, cover our face and roll! We also learned the importance of calling 911 and having a family meeting spot. We ended the visit with a chance to see one of the fire trucks! Thank you to the fire fighters who came to visit!

Mrs. Millevoi's Class Continued

As part of their study of Water and Climate, third grade students collected materials and simulated what happens when raindrops fall on various items in nature. They determined whether each item absorbs water or if the items are waterproof. The unit will culminate with students deciding what line of action would be needed if water pooled in front of a school door.

Ms. Rukstele’s third graders wrapped up their ELA module with a fun Character Awards celebration! Working in committees, students voted for characters who were the Most Interesting, Most Entertaining, Most Surprising, Best Problem Solver, and Most Admirable. The third graders have started their science unit on water and climate. They have been investigating how water interacts with different types of surfaces, including natural materials found in their own backyards. By the end of the unit, they will be able to explain why puddles form on the playground in certain spots, but not in others.

Below are a few Title I documents that you may find helpful. If you have any questions throughout the year about Tawanka's Title I program, please contact our Title I Reading Specialist, Andrea Gansor(email). Be sure to keep your eyes out for updates and events funded by our Title I program!
