Superintendent Update
October 25, 2024
Cliff's Notes
Dear Bedford Public Schools Community,
In alignment with strategic initiative 3.3 (Develop formal collaboration structures to foster a culture of feedback, growth mindset and coherence districtwide), members of the district leadership team (pictured) conducted the first set of instructional rounds at Lane School (since the practice was discontinued due to COVID). It was wonderful to see staff and students in action and to talk about instructional practices that support our diverse set of learners. We look forward to continuing rounds at each of the other schools in the coming months.
This week, I also provided a comprehensive fiscal update to the School Committee at the first quarterly finance-focused meeting on October 22nd. In addition, please see the School Committee update below for additional context regarding the BEA contract negotiations that the School Committee asked me to share.
Best,
Cliff Chuang 莊 宏 毅

They voted to approve the FY25 budget reforecast, received an FY25 Q1 update, and a preliminary overview of the FY26 budget process. In addition, Chair Sheila Mehta-Green shared a statement on behalf of the Committee regarding BEA teacher contract negotiations, but I was also asked to provide the following additional context, which is included along with the statement here.

The Bedford High School Performing Arts Department will present THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG: HIGH SCHOOL EDITION, a madcap British farce by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer & Henry Shields, on November 14 through 16 in the BHS Auditorium. Tickets are $14 for adults and $12 for students, and are available through the Performing Arts Department website: https://bhschorusandtheater.weebly.com/tickets.html. THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG: HIGH SCHOOL EDITION follows the hapless Cornley Drama Society as they attempt to perform a 1920s melodrama called The Murder at Haversham Manor. Things quickly go from bad to worse as the actors forget their lines, the set falls apart, and somewhere, a dog is loose in the auditorium.
The play is double-cast, with one group of actors performing Thursday at 7:00pm and Saturday at 7:00pm, and the other performing on Friday at 7:00pm and Saturday at 1:00pm. It runs approximately two hours with one intermission. THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG: HIGH SCHOOL EDITION is presented by arrangement with Dramatists Play Service under license from Mischief Worldwide Ltd. The Mischief Production of THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG was originally produced on the West End Stage by Kenny Wax & Stage Presence and on Broadway by Kevin McCollum, J. J Abrams, Kenny Wax & Stage Presence.
