Wixom Staff News June 8, 2025

It is final countdown!

Whew! I remember, all too well, the stress, excitement and exhaustion I felt as a classroom teacher during these final days! Hang in there...deep breaths!! Please let me know how I can help over the next 2 1/2 days!

I am hopeful that Friday's news about Carrie O'Connell has relieved some the anxiousness and worry you might have been feeling in regard to your next leader. I had the opportunity to serve as Carrie's mentor last year, working closely throughout the year. Carrie and I worked well together as we share similar philosophies about leadership, teaching/learning and kids! I am excited for Carrie...and for this school community. "Coming home"' is a true gift...I did this at Oakley Park. I had taught there for many years and after leaving to pursue some other leadership experiences, I was lucky to return and lead there for 14 years. I am happy for Carrie to have this similar experience! I did NOT return as the same person I was when I left...during my time away from Oakley Park I grew in so many ways because of my experiences (the good and bad ones!)

As you move forward, I know this staff will continue to support one another and Carrie. While she is a familiar face to some, this is new beginning for all. I am looking forward supporting the transition of leadership. I will be here for Carrie as well as all of you!

In regard to check out, below is a document for CLASSROOM TEACHERS to sign up for a check out time. I do not anticipate this meeting taking more than 5 minutes. All other staff should complete the Wixom Year-end Check List document and submit it to either Michele, Tamara or me.

Staffing Updates:

  • Wishing Melonie A. all the best as she prepares to welcome baby #2! As previously shared, Melonie will not be returning for the 25-26 school year. It is my understanding that, Ms. Denisa Llangos will be joining the Wixom family as the new Social Worker!

  • Wishing Jewlissa all the best as she heads off to middle school! Walnut Creek is SO darn lucky to have her. I anticipate the positing of Jewlissa's position soon.

  • Wishing Alectra all the best as she & Grayson look forward to a new beginning in Indiana! We are so grateful for the support Alectra provided to many of our wolves!

  • Wishing Jessica Wilhide all the best as she moves on from Wixom. Jessica stepped up BIG time for our students serving the Resource Program and beyond! I know Jessica will be an asset where ever she choses to shares her talents!

  • We are THRILLED to share that Junior Kindergarten will continue at Wixom! MANY thanks to Melanie, Nicole and Alexis for their persistence with ensuring this program continues for us.

  • As we will have 4 sections of 1st grade (and Melanie is staying in JK), I anticipate a posting soon for a 1st grade teacher!

  • Special Services: I am excited to share our TC/Psy team of Steve & Georgetta will continue for the 25/26 school year!

  • We continue our search for two Resource Program teachers! Gary Puhl and I have begun interviewing! Fingers crossed!!!

It is absolutely necessary you notify the office if you will NOT be in your classrooms. It can be very frustrating us (especially Michele when she is working alone) to find classes. We begin by calling your classroom and then checking the FAPEs schedule. If you leave your room for a track walk, buddy activity, outdoor classroom area, etc PLEASE notify the office!
