Social Studies Steering Committee
South Dakota Department Board of Education Standards approved new Social Studies Standards to be implemented during the 2025-2026 school year.
Development and review of the curriculum are driven by the District's Curriculum Revision Cycle. The cycle is based on the South Dakota Standards Revision and Adoption Timeline utilized by the State Board of Education. It specifies the curriculum's timeframe for studying, developing, adopting, and implementing. By Policy IG/IG-R Curriculum Development, Adoption, and Review, various committees are involved in the process.
Beginning in the fall of 2023, the Social Studies Steering Committee will start meeting. The Steering Committee will include at least three teachers and one administrator from each instructional level, teachers and administrators from Special Services, EL teachers, school support personnel, parents/guardians, and community members.

SFSD All Stars! 💫🤩⭐
Katrina Mize
This week's SFSD All Star is Katrina Mize, building manager at Patrick Henry Middle School! Her colleague Holly Gage had this to say about working with her, "Katrina is a joy to work with everyday. She is one of the hardest working people in our building. She comes to all situations with a positive attitude and a smile on her face. I enjoy talking and interacting with her everyday. We request a lot of Katrina throughout the school year and she is always willing to help out and offer suggestions. She goes above and beyond and is very reliable."

Weekly Wellness: Spring Allergy Relief
A Few Tips for Spring Allergy Relief:
- Stay inside when pollen counts are high.
- Take off your shoes at the door. That keeps pollen allergens outside.
- Keep windows closed to keep pollen out, especially on a windy day.
- Cool your house with an air conditioner instead of a fan in the window. This prevents pollen from entering from outside.
- Don’t line-dry clothes or sheets in warmer weather. They will collect pollen when they hang outside.
- Take some allergy medicine. Antihistamines block your body’s response to allergies and they usually work in less than an hour.
