ABIGAIL ADAMS MIDDLE SCHOOL - A MILLION DREAMS COME TRUE

Abigail Adams Middle School wins $5,000 grand prize in the #amilliondreamschallenge to purchase new books for its classrooms and library!

The #amilliondreamschallenge was an enormous collaboration involving AAMS students and staff. Students in the video shared testimonials about how books have made their dreams come true, choir members rehearsed with Ms. McDonough and recorded the song in one day, and students in Mr. Delvecchio’s PBL class designed replica book covers of some of their favorite books and novels and adorned the auditorium with them.

To all those involved, including Principal Matt Meehan, Colleen McDonough, Mr. Delvecchio, Mr. Cawley, and Mr. Mullaney, our amazing students, and of course Ms. Kate McCue Day - congratulations! This is another great example of the exceptional talent and collaborative community we have at Abigail Adams Middle School and across the district.

The A Million Dreams Challenge Grant Recipients

Nash Primary & New England Wildlife Center

This month Thomas Nash Primary school has started a partnership with New England Wildlife Center with the support of Chartwells.

In an effort to keep food out of the trash, on two days a week the Nash school collects any uneaten fruits and vegetables and they are brought to the Center to help them feed the animals that they care for. This has been a dual educational process, learning about the nutritional value of food, and the importance of eliminating food waste.

COVID-19 Safety & Information

Booster & Vaccines

The CDC is recommending everyone ages 18 and older get a booster shot if it has been at least six months from your second dose of the Moderna/Pfizer vaccine, or two months after receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. To find a booster/vaccine near you, you can text your zip code to 438829, or visit vaccines.gov. COVID-19 boosters are free and available at more than 1000 locations.

Travel Guidelines:

The most recent travel recommendations from the CDC state do NOT travel if…

  • You have been exposed to COVID-19 unless you are fully vaccinated or recovered from COVID-19 in the past 90 days.

  • You are sick.

  • You tested positive for COVID-19 and haven’t ended isolation (even if you are fully vaccinated).

  • You are waiting for the results of a COVID-19 test. If your test comes back positive while you are at your destination, you will need to isolate and postpone your return until it’s safe for you to end isolation. Your travel companions may need to self-quarantine.

Click here for a reference guide for traveling (or returning) to the United States from a foreign country by air.

COVID-19 Testing in School:

School nurses are only able to test students who develop symptoms while in school, or who are found to be a close contact to someone with COVID-19 while in school. Any student who needs to be tested in school for symptomatic testing or the Test & Stay program must have a signed consent form on file. If you have not filled out the form, please do so now to avoid interruptions.

Health Screening:

It is critical to check in with your children regularly, and screen their health prior to the start of the school day. If they have any COVID-19 related symptoms, such as a fever, body aches, and/or a new loss of taste or smell, they should stay home from school and get tested. Absences related to COVID-19 symptoms will be excused with testing and medical documentation.
