Richmond Community Schools
Message from the Superintendent
Dear RCS Families,
November is a time to reflect on the people who make a difference in our lives. At Richmond Community Schools, I am grateful for our students, dedicated staff, supportive families, and community partners. Your commitment to our schools helps create a place where students can learn, grow, and feel connected.
As we enter this season of gratitude, I also want to acknowledge the pain and concern surrounding recent gun violence and its impact on our youth. As your superintendent, I care deeply about the safety and well-being of every child in our community. Our young people deserve to feel safe, to have hope for their futures, and to know that there are adults who care about them and will listen.
To our students: you matter. Your life, your dreams, and your future matter. If you are hurting, afraid, or worried about someone, please reach out to a teacher, counselor, principal, family liaison, or another trusted adult. You do not have to carry those feelings alone.
To our families: please continue making time for conversations with your children. Ask how they are feeling, listen to their concerns, and contact your school if they need additional support. Preventing violence and supporting our youth takes all of us—schools, families, and community partners—working together with compassion and a shared commitment to our children.
On Veterans Day, November 11, we honor the men and women who have served our country. Westview Elementary will host a special program recognizing their service and sacrifice. Thank you to the veterans in our RCS community and to the families who support them.
During American Education Week, November 16–20, we celebrate public education and the people who help our students succeed. Education Support Professionals Day on November 18 offers a special opportunity to thank the staff members whose work keeps our schools welcoming, safe, and ready for learning. From transporting students and preparing meals to supporting classrooms and caring for our buildings, their contributions matter every day.
We also look forward to cheering on our students at Spell Bowl on November 16 at 5:30 p.m. at Civic Hall. We are proud of the preparation and teamwork our students and coaches bring to this event, and we invite families to join us in supporting them.
Please remember that Thanksgiving Break is November 25–27, with no school on those days. I hope this time provides an opportunity to rest, connect with loved ones, and find comfort in the people who support you.
Thank you for caring for our students and for one another. On behalf of Richmond Community Schools, I wish you and your family a safe and peaceful Thanksgiving.
With gratitude and pride,
Dr. Curtis Wright
