August 11 Update
Hello,
As the first day of school (Thursday, August 21) approaches, we're excited to share a few more details to help you get ready for a great year! In this newsletter, you'll find reminders, important updates, and resources to make the back-to-school transition as smooth as possible. Some of this information was shared in the last newsletter, but we've included it again for your viewing.
We can't wait to see all of you soon!
Mr. Popowycz
New Staff
Courtney Hugo - English Teacher
I'm excited to be joining the Lewisburg community this school year! Prior to this, I taught English and worked as the librarian at Danville High School, where I also supported drama productions and the public speaking team. Then in 2020, I transitioned to a role at Geisinger, serving as the Manager of Continuing Education in the Education Department. Now, I'm eager to return to public education. I live in Northumberland with my husband, Ryan, and our grumpy (but lovable) shih tzu, Fletcher. Outside of work, I enjoy baking, hiking, and traveling. I look forward to getting know everyone!
Emma Naugle - Special Education Teacher
Hello everyone! I am beyond excited to join the Lewisburg Area School District community! I graduated from IUP with a degree in Special Education. When I'm not in the classroom I enjoy horseback riding, traveling, and hanging out with my family and dogs. I have a German Shepherd name Aspin and my boyfriend and I just rescued a Great Dane mix puppy that we named Fuji, after my favorite mountain in Japan! Go Dragons!
Nathan Bingaman - Science Teacher
Hello! I grew up in Selinsgrove and attended Susquehanna University where I received a biology degree, teaching certificate and am currently working on my Masters degree. I now live in Sunbury with my wife Dorothyann and our three children. Our son Grayson is 4 and starting preschool, and we have twin girls Avalee and Eliza who will soon be 2. I enjoy spending time with my family, watching Nascar, building legos with my son, D&D, taking care of my reptiles, and spending time outside. I spent two years in the Harrisburg Area, and am looking forward to being a part of the Lewisburg Area staff as well as being closer to home.
Emily Gaugler - Art Teacher
I have been teaching in the Lewisburg school district for 10 years. I started my career at Linntown Intermediate School before transferring to the Middle School where I spent the last 9 years. Throughout my time at Lewisburg I've completed my Masters in Art Education and a Master of Fine Arts in Communication Design from Kutztown University. I'm excited to continue my teaching journey at the high school.
PowerSchool Annual Update and Schedule Changes
Please continue to update the PowerSchool Annual Updates. This will provide us with the most up-to-date information for you and your student, and by completing the update, you will be able to see student schedules.
On Wednesday, August 6, an email was sent to all students who are requesting a schedule change. We are actively working through that process and a counselor or administrator will contact you with the status of your request. The schedule change request Google Form will close on Wednesday, August 27.
9th Grade Orientation - Students Only
Our Link Leaders are excited to welcome our 9th graders to LAHS. All 9th graders are invited to join them from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM on Wednesday, August 20 to get a head start on the year and become more familiar with the high school. This is a really valuable experience for our students and we love the opportunity that it provides to our new 9th grade students. Additionally, Link Leaders will be available during the first several days to assist with anything a student needs and will be available periodically throughout the year. Attached 9th grade families will find a letter with more information.
