Lock Down Drill Information Lock Down Drill Information

Hello parents,

Creekside will conduct a lockdown drill on 9/17/25.

A lockdown means students and teachers clear the hallways, lock down their rooms, turn out the lights, move out of sight and maintain silence. They remain silent until first responders clear hallways and unlock each door. Parents and visitors inside the building follow these lockdown procedures as well.

A lockdown is called when there is a threat or hazard inside the school building. In an actual lockdown, the school would contact 911 and local police and other emergency agencies would gather at the school to coordinate the response. The situation is then under the command of the lead police agency.

During a real lockdown, parents will be informed and instructed by the Davis School District. Initial information is distributed through a call-out, which includes an e-mail and text message (if you opted in to receive texts). That being said, please take a few minutes to update your phone numbers and emergency contacts.

Updates would be posted to the school’s website, as well as the district’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. If you are not yet connected to the district’s Facebook or Twitter accounts, I recommend you do so.

We appreciate your cooperation as we practice lockdown procedures with your child. We value your child and their safety and want to be prepared in the event of an actual threat.

Thank you!

Linda Horsley

Brittin Merback - Family Advocate

I grew up in Davis County and have had the joy of raising my three children in this wonderful community. I love spending time with my family & grandkids, exploring nature, gardening, and traveling to new places near and far. I’m excited to be a part of the Creekside team and look forward to better help and support the families of Creekside Elementary.

Sharie Scott - Kindergarten Teacher

Mrs. Scott has taught for 24 years, all in Davis School District. She has taught at Knowlton, Heritage, Endeavour, Davis Connect, and now at Creekside. She has taught K, 2, and 3rd grades. Teaching was her dream since she could walk and talk!

She served an LDS mission in San Antonio, Texas, mostly on the border of Mexico and speaks Spanish. She enjoy teaching some to her students.

Before married life and children, she was an avid traveler and had many trips for humanitarian work to South America included: Chile, Peru, and Ecuador. She loves serving, especially children.

She is married to "Dave The Builder" and has twin 7 years old, Grace and Grant who attend Endeavour Elementary. She loves gardening, traveling, concerts, roller coasters, monster trucks, pallet auctions, and making things with kids.

Last year she was awarded the Superintendent's Inclusion award for being one of the "nicest" teachers in the district. She also was in the top 1,000 out of 90,000 in America's Favorite Teacher Contest.

Most of all, she loves seeing students learn and succeed in class and in life.

**Jr. High Sibling Expectaions** **Jr. High Sibling Expectaions**

  1. Junior high students who have siblings in second grade or younger are welcome to wait in the designated area, as long as they are not causing any disturbances.
  2. If their sibling is in third grade or older, we ask that they wait on the sidewalk in front of the Creekside sign (not on or at Creekside sign).
  3. Junior high students without siblings attending Creekside should not loiter on or near the property.

The purpose of these guidelines is to reduce the ongoing rowdiness that has been reported, including skateboarding in front of the building and on steps, as well as loud and disruptive behavior around our building.

We want to recognize that there are several Fairfield students who are being respectful and responsible while waiting for their siblings, and we do not want to impose unnecessarily on them. Our goal is simply to reduce the unnecessary presence and disruptive behavior of those without a reason to be on campus.

What to expect with phones and smartwatches

Creekside does not allow students to use personal phones during the school day. If a parent must be contacted, the student needs to receive teacher permission, after which they will use the school phone. Phones and smartwatches must be kept in backpacks.

Creekside Handbook States:

Our electronic device policy remains largely unchanged in elementary schools. However, we do want to send this both to provide additional information and as a reminder so you can prepare appropriately for the school year.

  • Senate Bill 178 - Devices in Public Schools went into effect July 1, 2025 and prohibits students from using cellphones, smartwatches, or emerging technologies during classroom hours. While establishing a default, the law allows local education agencies (school districts) to create exemptions and craft their own policies.

  • The Davis School District Board of Education adopted a policy that prohibits electronic devices in elementary school throughout the entire school day. In secondary schools, students will be permitted to access them during passing periods and lunch.

  • While Creekside has always had a no cellphone policy, the addition of
smartwatches is new. In the past, watches could be worn if they were used strictly to tell but they will now be required to be stored in backpacks during the school day just like cellphones.

  • The following steps will be taken to help support students who access electronic devices during school hours:

  • First occurrence - the device will be taken away by the teacher and returned to the student at the end of the day. Parents will be notified.

  • Second occurrence - the device will be taken away and turned in to the office.

  • An administrator will meet with the student and return the device to the student at the end of the day. Parents will be notified.

  • Third and subsequent occurrences - the device will be taken away and turned in to the office. A parent will be required to pick up the device in the office.

Students who have a device listed as an accommodation on a special education or health plan (such as diabetics who use a phone to monitor glucose levels) are exempt from this policy as it pertains to their accommodation.

Parents, please help us by enforcing this at home. Do not allow your child to contact you on their personal device during school hours. Make plans before school starts or contact them on their device AFTER the dismissal bell.

"Privately owned animals are only permitted on school premises with explicit consent from the Executive Director or direct supervisor. Otherwise, it is unlawful to bring domestic animals onto the grounds of any public school, regardless of whether the animal is restrained by a leash, chain, rope, cord, or similar device." -ut.gov
