Athletics Athletics

Athlete of the Week

Ragsdale High School is proud to announce Michael Zeigler, a senior on the men's lacrosse team, as this week's Athlete of the Week.

In a conference matchup against Grimsley High School last week, Michael scored the first goal of his high school career. What made the moment even more special was that it came during the final moments of the game, as Grimsley played with an empty net. When the ball hit the back of the goal, both teams erupted in excitement, celebrating a truly heartwarming highlight.

This season marks Michael's first time participating in a sport at Ragsdale, making his achievement even more memorable. The pride and joy he felt were shared by his coaches, teammates, and the entire Ragsdale community. Even the next day, Michael’s enthusiasm lit up the hallways of the school, a reminder of why education-based athletics are so vital. Moments like these are about much more than wins and losses — they are about sportsmanship, teamwork, and creating lifelong memories.

Head Coach Hayden Seal shared his excitement for Michael’s recognition, saying,
"Michael is a great student-athlete. He is the heart and soul of our team. He never fails to make the entire team bust out laughing. Michael continues to improve as a lacrosse player every day. His plans to continue playing in adult club leagues after high school are awesome to hear."

Congratulations to Michael Zeigler on his incredible accomplishment and for embodying the spirit of Ragsdale Tiger pride!

Senior Night

We loved celebrating our senior men's and women's lacrosse players!

Record Breaking Senior

Ragsdale High School is proud to announce that senior standout Owen Robinson has officially etched his name into the Ragsdale Baseball Records Book, recording his 270th career strikeout during last night’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Northwest Guilford in the 4A Metro Conference Tournament.

Robinson’s milestone moment is the latest in a historic season. Earlier this month, he also notched his 100th career hit on April 15, 2025, adding to an already remarkable list of achievements. With the postseason in full swing, Owen continues to be one of the leaders for the Tigers both on the mound and at the plate.

Head Coach Donnie Maness reflected on the historical weight of Robinson's accomplishment: “We are all very proud of Owen and his tremendous accomplishment. We have had many great high school pitchers at Ragsdale over the years, so to be the strikeout king here is such a cool thing. It just shows how consistently good Owen has been in his time here.”

Athletic Director Deborah Jones emphasized the significance of the moment for the school and community: “This is a truly special moment for Ragsdale Athletics. Owen represents the best of what it means to be a student-athlete—dedicated, humble, and team-focused. His accomplishments inspire not only his teammates but the entire Ragsdale community. We couldn’t be prouder.”

As the season continues, Robinson’s numbers are expected to rise, and so too is his place in Ragsdale’s baseball legacy. With each game, he’s not just helping the Tigers win—he’s writing history

Track Teams Excel at Conference Meet

The Ragsdale High School Women’s and Men’s Track Teams delivered strong performances at the 4A Metro Conference Track Meet held last night. The women's team secured an impressive 3rd place overall, while the men's team finished 8th in a highly competitive field.

Several athletes stood out with exceptional efforts and top finishes across a variety of events. Leading the way were two outstanding freshmen who captured individual conference titles.

Elle Dawson completed a rare and remarkable sweep in the distance events, winning the 3200 meters, 1600 meters, and 800 meters — an extraordinary achievement that earned her three 1st place finishes. On the men’s side, freshman Kingston McDonald took home the conference championship in the 400 meters, showcasing his speed and potential on the big stage.

In addition to these standout victories, several other Tigers made major contributions:

  • Mackenzie Stevenson raced to 2nd-place finishes in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, highlighting her speed and consistency.
  • Faith Thomas, a junior, secured 2nd place in the 800 meters, and also placed 3rd and 4th in the 1600-meter run, demonstrating endurance and competitiveness in the distance events.
  • Serena Lambert added valuable points by finishing 3rd in the 800 meters and 5th in the 400 meters, rounding out a strong showing for the women’s middle-distance squad.

A huge shoutout goes to our coaches and athletes who remained focused and resilient despite an hour-long delay due to lightning and storms in the area. Their ability to stay mentally prepared and perform at a high level after such a disruption speaks volumes about their discipline and determination.

“What makes this meet so special is the combination of young talent and experienced leadership,” said Coach Platt, head coach of the track and field program. “These athletes have worked incredibly hard, and their results reflect their commitment to excellence.”

Ragsdale Athletics is proud of our student-athletes and coaching staff and looks forward to strong postseason performances as the teams advance toward regional competition.
