What is Respite Care?

At some point, everyone needs a break and a little help caring for a child. Sometimes Manville families are able to find family members, friends, or care providers who understand and support the unique needs of a child/family. Other times, it is more complex.

Respite typically refers to care that is specialized to a child's needs. Family Ties at the Federation of Child for Special Needs has a tip sheet about respite care here.

In this Information Spotlight, we are highlighting regional resources that may be able to support the needs of Manville students/families.

Respite Opportunities for Families Respite Opportunities for Families

Massachusetts HAD a 2-year program to promote innovative respite relief. Unfortunately, many opportunities we shared with families are no longer funded. These programs remain active and likely able to offer support for Manville families.

  • Connected Families Respite Program - The Home for Little Wanderers

  • Parent to Parent of Massachusetts Program

Other community-based programs that may be helpful for your family:

  • House of Possibilities in Easton offers weekend programming and overnight respite.
  • One Night Out! offers monthly respite childcare events for children with special needs of all ages and their siblings. Information for school year 2026-2027.

  • Camp Starfish Respite Program

Does your family know of other programs? Please let us know here!
