Athletes Asking Athletes (AAA)

Here is a little bit of data our athletes found out from the survey from last May 2026. More information to follow:

Most students report positive experiences playing their sport, with a significant majority in every grade (75%+) feeling excited to go to practice and agreeing with the statement: “Physical activity helps me feel better.”

Students in all grades feel supported by their teammates (75%+), but said at least one teammate lets their attitude affect the team (66%+).

Does your student athlete need academic support?

Academic Support is available during both FLEX and Advisory.

The After School Program also offers support- because this is during cheer practice, the student and coach need to confirm when student may miss practice during ASP.

Students need to be proactive and "use their voice" if they need help, extra time or a conference with their teacher.

Students can talk to their coach, Mrs. Parker or admin. to state they need support.

Parents should be checking Parent Vue and talking to their child about school work, progress, projects and grades..

You are an integral part to helping create a positive youth sports experience for your athletes.

Get involved in the team. If the coach has a snack schedule or needs extra hands at practice, consider helping out if your athlete is open to it.

Being more connected to the team will give you a better understanding of what your athlete experiences.

Before a game, help your athlete prepare with the right rest, good nutrition/hydration, and encouragement.

Cheer positively and show Good Sportsmanship. Everyone enjoys the game much more when the Fans are Positive.

Keep your athlete in multiple sports if they enjoy them! . In most cases, specialization before 12th grade is not a good idea and athletes may not only miss the fun and connection of playing other sports~~ It's a Win WIn!

If your athlete needs support in class, help them to advocate for themselves Early and Often. Students can work with their teachers, with their counselor, with admin. and or with the Athletic Director if they need academic support.

At every possible turn, let your athlete know that you love them unconditionally (by saying it!), regardless of their athletic performance. Enjoy your athlete’s time in youth sports. It goes quickly, and you will want to look back, in conversation with your grown athlete, on the good old days.

Getting to Know - Christina Nolasco - golf

What's your name, grade, sport, and how long have you been playing?

My name is Christina Nolasco. I'm a sophomore, and I've been playing golf for 2 seasons. Where do you see yourself after high school?

After high school, I see myself attending a four-year university.

Do you still see yourself in the sport or move on?

I could see myself occasionally playing for fun.

, If you could be any athlete for a game, who would you pick and why?

Probably just a professional golfer, because they're all good.

How do you manage life as a student athlete with long practices and late-night games?

I do my best to communicate with my teachers and take advantage of flex.

How would you compare this season to the last, like, what are some major differences?

I definitely learned how to use my clubs a bit smarter. I know I can definitely hit a lot further than last year,

What makes you unique compared to anyone else on the course?

I'm very unique. I'm left-handed. I am the only left-handed hitter on the team.

How do you reset mentally after a performance slump?

It's like, looking forward because you're not gonna flash out isn't what's important anymore. It's always next shot. And I guess just, like, taking a deep breath always helps.

, Pregame like hype music or silence and focus?

Hype music.

What songs do you listen to? Um.. Who seems cooler? Sometimes. Caris won thought.

If your team had a movie made about them, which actor plays you and who plays the coach? I guess maybe, like, Andy Sandberg from Brooklyn Nine-Nine would play me, and my coach would be played by Andre Braugher

Getting to Know - Christopher Gallegos - Cross Country

What's your name, grade, sport, and how long have you been playing?

My name's Christopher. I'm a senior. I have been playing cross country for 4 years.

Where do you see yourself after high school?

At a 4-year university.

Do you still see yourself playing in the sport or moving on?

Not for school, just running on my own.

If you could be any athlete for a game, who would you pick and why?

LeBron, because he's the greatest of all time.

How do you manage life as a student athlete with long practices and late-night games? Caffeine.

How would you compare this season to the last?

It's just different being the oldest one on the team, I guess. Like from freshman to senior.

What makes you unique compared to anyone else?

I guess my journey on the team hasn't been linear, but it has had its ups and downs.

How do you reset mentally after a performance slump?

I just don't think about it.

Pre-game hype music or silence and focus?

Silence and focus.

How do you focus?

Just keeping to myself; I don't really talk to anyone.

If your team had a movie made about them, which actor plays you and who plays the coach?

I would say McLovin from Superbad would play Seth Rogen, and I would play my coach.

Getting to Know - Jocelyn Perez - Cheer

I have been cheering for 3 years. My favorite thing about cheer was making new friends with girls that I will probably be friends with for the rest of my life.

How do you get over nerves? I get over nerves by looking at the JV team that are smiling at me. Their excitement motivates me.

How do you balance academics and sports? I balance them by being well organized and by knowing the dates of when things are due and when practice falls so that I can plan accordingly.

What would your superpower be? If I could have any superpower I would want to be able to mind read so that I could know what people are thinking about. I am a very curious person.

What are some of your favorites? My favorite movie is any Disney Princess movie and my favorite food is Sushi.

What are your plans after WHS? After high school, I am looking forward to going to college and studying animal science.

Getting to Know -Giselle Guzman- Tennis

What's your name, grade, sport, and how long have you been playing?

My name is Giselle Guzman, and I'm a senior. I play tennis, and I've been playing it barely this year.

Where do you see yourself after high school?

I see myself attending a four-year university.

Do you still see yourself playing in the sport or moving on?

I think I will move on.

If you could be any athlete for a game, who would you pick and why?

Any professional tennis player because I would like to play like any of them.

How do you manage life as a student athlete with long practices and late-night games?

I have to, like, organize my time, and I have to be very smart, like, prioritize. It's about priority.

What makes you unique compared to anyone else?

I think I'm more of a goofball, so I goof around, and I think I bring, like, you know, a different vibe.

How do you reset mentally after a performance slump?

I just accept it, and I move on.

Pre-game hype music or silence and focus?

Silence and focus

How do you focus?

I tend to isolate myself from others.

If your team had a movie made about them, which actor plays you and who plays the coach?

We would be SpongeBob, I would be SpongeBob, and my coach would be Mr. Krabs, not because they're mean, just because, you know.

One of the biggest gifts youth sports gives them has almost nothing to do with becoming better athletes.

Sports.......

gives youth real reps at life.

They have to talk to people face-to-face. Listen. Communicate. Make decisions in real time. Solve problems without asking ChatGPT what to do next.

They don’t always get picked.

They don’t always win.

They make mistakes in front of other people.

They get embarrassed.

They get disappointed.

And then they come back and try again.

But sports isn’t only teaching them how to struggle.

It’s also teaching them how to belong.

How to be part of a team. How to care about something bigger than themselves. How to build friendships with kids they may have never met anywhere else.

Years from now, they may not remember the score.

But I think they’ll remember how it felt to be part of something.

That’s why our family takes youth sports seriously.

Not because we expect our kids to become professional athletes — although if that’s their dream, we’ll support them every step of the way.

We take it seriously because the world our kids are growing up in keeps getting more digital, more connected, and somehow more disconnected at the same time.

Sports still gives them somewhere real to go.

A field.
A court.
A team.
A coach.
A challenge.
A place to laugh, fail, compete, grow, and just be a kid.
