In order to make a difference in the community and help promote the welfare of animals, Student Council will be sponsoring a collection for Anderson Humane in South Elgin, April 13th-April 24th. Collection boxes will be set up in the front foyer. Some items the animals need are already around your home, such as newspapers, paper towels, dawn dish soap, fleece blankets or old bath towels! We are quickly approaching Teacher Appreciation Week! That week where we can show the whole staff just how much we value them and all they do for our kiddos. PTO is planning to provide a variety snacks, lunch, and we have a few other tricks up our sleeve!

We are hoping you will help support one day of the fun by donating gift cards in the $5-$10 range so that we can provide each of our 80 staff members with a little something. These can be sent to school in an envelope labeled TAW attn. Danielle Sundvall or reach out via email at dmmsundvall@gmail.com to arrange drop off/pick-up. We would love to have these by the end of April.

If you prefer to make a monetary donation that can be done via this link.

We thank you in advance for showing your appreciation.

A note from the School Nurse A note from the School Nurse

Cold and Flu season is upon us once again. Preventative measures remain the most effective way to reduce the spread of influenza and other viral illnesses. Please review healthy hygiene habits with your student, such as hand washing and keeping hands away from their nose/mouth while at school.

Absences from School

Report all absences to the attendance line. Please provide reason for absences and whether or not your child has a communicable or contagious illness.

Keep a child home from school when:

• Your child has had a fever of 100 degrees F or more within the past 24 hours

• Your child has had vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours

• Your child has an unexplained rash, sore or pink eyes with a discharge

• Your child has a persistent, productive cough

** Your child must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school without medication

** If a bacterial infection has been diagnosed, your child must have 24 hours of antibiotics before returning to school

** If your child has not fully recovered or remained home for the recommended length of time, parents may be contacted and asked to take the child home.

Extended Absences: Extended absences of 5 or more days may require that the student present a doctor's statement of re-admittance to the school nurse. For further information on childhood illnesses and diseases please go to Health Information on the D303 website, or contact your school nurse directly at: cor-nurses@d303.org

Guide

The District 303 Parent/Guardian Attendance Resource Guide is officially launching on the D303 website. Superintendent Dr. Paul Gordon shared the details of the April 13 meeting of the School Board, where members of the D303 Communitywide Education Facilities Committee joined district leadership in presenting and discussing the Committee’s Final Report.

“I feel we’re at a crossroads,” D303 parent and Facilities Committee Member Alice Froemling told the School Board. “We have great staff, great teachers, great people who are in our schools every day working with our kids. But we’ve achieved our great success not because of our facilities but in spite of our facilities… We have to do something.”
