The STAR
March 8, 2021
“At Ruby Bridges we are committed to every student’s potential by teaching to the whole child and holding high expectations.”
In Person Learning Begins March 15, 2021
We write so excited to have our Stars return for in-person learning on Mach 15. Here are some things to note:
- All returning students have been assigned to an A/B schedule, meaning they will attend school on Mon./Tues. (A group), or on Th./Fri. (B group). No changes to groupings.
- All families/students MUST complete a Covid screener test prior to entering campus. PLEASE complete at home prior to arrival. It will be sent to your email each morning.
- Students will be screened as they arrive (for drive ups and walk ins). Please do NOT leave your child without ensuring daily screener has been completed.
- After screening, ALL students will line up in designated classroom lines (red stars). Parents/families will NOT be allowed on campus as an added safety measure.
- All students must arrive with a mask or approved nose/mouth covering and wear the duration of the time on campus.
- NO parking along the drop off zone/curb. Make sure to park at the very end of our parking lot or in the neighborhood for a smooth arrival.
- If you have different times to drop off students, please create a family plan as we cannot accommodate supervision between staggered arrivals. Students will need to be supervised until arrival on campus for learning.
- We are asking families to feed students prior to arrival at school. Lunch will be handed out at dismissal for students included in the lunch count.
- If your child is symptomatic, you will be called to immediately pick up student and directed with next steps. Students will wait in the isolation room.
- For dismissal, please be patient. We are implementing a new procedure that will require your cooperation. If driving, pull into drive in lane and be prepared to share the name of your student. Your student will be dismissed to your vehicle by the teacher or a staff member. Stay in your vehicle. If walking, please approach the rolling desk (front of the school) and your child will be dismissed to you as well.
- Remember social distancing at all times. All of those on campus MUST be masked.
Due to our rotating schedule, all students should arrive during their scheduled time and be picked up on time. Gates will be open 10 minutes prior for each group so pick up and learning can begin at the scheduled time. Schedules are included below.
TK/K- 8:30 start

Covid Testing MANDATORY for a March 15 return- TEST NO LATER THAN THURSDAY!
To prepare for student return, Ruby Bridges is offering testing on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, THIS WEEK 10 - 6 pm. We will continue to offer testing on Saturday, March 13th and 14th as well. PLEASE DO NOT wait until the last minute to test as the turn around time is 24-48 hours. While we are moving into the bi-weekly testing phase, ALL returning students need to be Covid testing in anticipation for 3/15/21 return. If your child tests from March 6 -11, they will return (with negative results) and begin bi-weekly testing. More information to come from Supt. Scuderi.
Testing can be arranged by appointments here: AUSD’s Student COVID-19 Testing web page:, or by walk ins, no appointment necessary. All testing must be through our AUSD partners at AUSD sites.
AUSD testing questions can be directed here: StudentC19@alamedaunified.org
You may also email me with any questions related to return at dpharr@alamedaunified.org.
Thank you for doing your part to help us all stay safe!

Women's History Month
"March is National Women’s History Month. Schools and communities all over the country celebrate and commemorate the amazing things that women have accomplished in our country.
Some activities:
- Are your Stars aware of how women in the U.S. lived just 50-60 years ago when their grandparents were growing up?
- Thinking about the women in your family, have our Stars interview an adult woman in their family or friend circle.
- Let older Stars ponder what’s it like to make a mark on the world. Here is a huge list: http://myhero.com/women_heroes
- Younger Stars can read picture books and early readers with strong female characters and talk about them.
March is also National Reading Month! So, the month of March has two great reasons to read about and recognize the accomplishments of women."

March Life Skill- Self Reflection
"Self-reflection is defined as a mental process you can use to grow your understanding of who you are, what your values are, and why you think, feel, and act the way you do. When you self-reflect and become more conscious of what drives you, you can more easily make changes that help you more easily develop and/or improve your life."
This month we are learning about Self-reflection.
Toolbox for March
Throughout February we will focus on the following Toolbox Tools. Our tools help us deal with our feelings and emotions in manageable ways. Ask our stars about the tools.
Apology and Forgiveness Tool- I admit my mistakes and forgive yours.
Patience Tool- I am strong enough to wait.

Zoom Safety
- Please don’t interrupt your child unless s/he needs some help during class.
- Please be aware that loud background noise - such as music, appliances, conversations or arguments - can be distracting not only to your own child but to the teacher and other students in the class.
- Please watch your language! Please remember that the camera picks up what’s happening in the room where your child is working. As such, we ask that:
- You be fully clothed while your child is online.
- You avoid distracting behavior, such as dancing, cleaning, exercising, or eating.
- Please do not try to lead or teach in breakout rooms unless you have gone through our volunteer vetting process and are working directly with the teacher to support the class.
- If possible, please try to find a space where your child can work away from distractions and interruptions and possibly where the camera faces a wall.
