CPS Family Update
Week of September 14th
Systems & Routines
We have entered our first full week. Last week was a great start as teachers work to build routines, classroom expectations and relationships with their new students. Students are starting to settle in and are adjusting to each of their classes, cafeteria , hallways and everything CPS. We had our first All School Assembly on Friday, which was a huge success. Students were great and they were all trained on bike safety around our island and the NPS campus. There have been some questions around Schoology. NPS is no longer using Schoology. Google Classroom is taking the place of Schoology and parents can view grades through Aspen. There is more important information below regarding bike safety, technology, athletics, upcoming field trips and more!

More on Alvin Ailey
"The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is one of the world's most prestigious and influential modern dance companies. It was officially designated by the U.S. Congress a "vital American Cultural Ambassador to the World". Founded in 1958 at the height of the Civil Rights Movement, the company revolutionized dance by celebrating the African American cultural experience, elevating Black artists, and pioneering an inclusive, multiracial group of dancers. Having performed for more than 25 million people across 71 countries, Ailey's iconic dance masterpieces are considered global treasures celebrated by bridging diverse histories, music, and storytelling into high-art performance."
Connection to the MA Curriculum Frameworks across multiple content areas:
History & Social Science (Grades 6–8): Connects directly to our state standards on African American history, cultural identity, and civil rights movements through primary-source artistic performance.
Arts & ELA/Literacy Standards: Fulfills state Arts standards (Analyzing and Connecting in Dance) and ELA Anchor Standards for analyzing non-print texts, theme, and symbolism for post-trip writing assignments.
DESE Culturally Sustaining Pedagogy: Aligning with state priorities, it offers a multi-modal, highly engaging learning experience that deepens students' cultural literacy and historical empathy.
Important Information Regarding Tech
This was sent home to all NPS families on September 8th
We have the Remind communication tool up and running! Here is a link to slide deck with all the information you need to use this communication tool. This tool can be used by teachers at all grade levels. Here is a link to additional information from Remind.
Parents of students in NIS, CPS and NHS:
You should have received an invitation to Google Classroom. If you did not receive an invitation, please search in your SPAM folder. Here is a link to the Google Classroom information from our website.
NIS Parents: Please know that not all NIS teachers will be using Google Classroom, so don't worry if you do not receive any updates!
Parents of students in CPS and NHS:
Students can now log into Aspen with their school Google account, so they can check grades and schedules.
It has been a busy few weeks, so I ask for patience as we navigate these new tools.
Thank you very much!
