Prayer

Lord,

you are my source of strength; all power abides with you.

I pray for a strong and robust body capable of doing hard work, practicing exercise, and being resistant to illness.

I thank you as I trust in you, God.

May I find new strength and soar to great heights.

Amen

As we move towards the middle of Term 2, I would like to take the opportunity to share and reflect on our 2026 Strategic Focus areas that will continue guiding our work as a school community this year.

At Queen of Apostles, our focus is centred around four key pillars: Catholic Identity, Education, Community and Stewardship. These priorities are designed to strengthen who we are as a faith-filled learning community while ensuring we continue to provide the very best opportunities for our students and families.

Under Catholic Identity, we are looking forward to working closely with our parish and the Schoenstatt Sisters as we celebrate the rich faith story of our school throughout our 70th Anniversary year. These celebrations provide a wonderful opportunity to honour our history, strengthen connections and celebrate the many people who have shaped Queen of Apostles over the decades. We are also committed to strengthening the connection between First Nations perspectives and Catholic identity through authentic cultural, faith and community experiences across the school.

Within Education, our focus remains on embedding the Berry Street Education Model to strengthen self-regulation, establish calm and predictable classrooms, and maximise learning for all students. Alongside this, we continue refining our support programs to best meet the individual needs of students across the school.

Our Community focus includes the exciting development of our Community Garden project, led collaboratively by the P&F in partnership with the parish, school and First Nations community members. We also look forward to creating a Queen of Apostles First Nations mural and story that reflects the rich culture and identity within our community. Another important focus for 2026 will be strengthening father engagement and participation within the school community through meaningful events, partnerships and opportunities for connection.

In Stewardship, we continue refining our reporting processes to strengthen clarity, consistency and partnership with parents, while also continuing our focus on enrolment growth and welcoming new families into our school community.

A reminder also that our Queen of Apostles 70th Anniversary Celebrations will take place on Friday 22 May. We are looking forward to welcoming current and past families, staff, parishioners and community members as we celebrate this significant milestone together.

Finally, I would like to let families know that Mrs Jennifer Anderson will be taking leave during Weeks 5–8 this term. During this time, Mrs Robyn Salvia will step into the role of Acting Assistant Principal from Wednesday to Friday each week. Mrs Beacher will be covering the Year 1 classroom role during this period. We thank both Mrs Salvia and Mrs Beacher for their flexibility and support.

Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and support of our school community.

Jesse Yock

Principal

Playgrounds After School

A reminder to families that students are not permitted to use the school playgrounds and play equipment after school hours.

Once the school day concludes, staff are no longer rostered to supervise playground areas and equipment. For safety, duty of care and insurance reasons, playgrounds must therefore remain out of bounds after school.

We kindly ask families to support us by ensuring children remain with parents/carers and do not access the playgrounds while waiting after school or once collected.

Thank you for your support and understanding as we work together to maintain a safe environment for all members of our community.

Parent Involvement in Classrooms

At Queen of Apostles, we greatly value the partnership between home and school and recognise the important role parents play in supporting student learning and wellbeing.

Throughout the year, teachers will be providing opportunities for parents and family members to be involved within classroom environments in ways that best suit the needs and routines of each class. These opportunities may look different across year levels and classrooms. In some classes, this may involve regular opportunities for parents to visit the classroom for short periods of time, while in others it may involve supporting specific learning experiences, activities or events.

Importantly, this is not about creating additional programs or expectations, but rather about strengthening connections between school and home and allowing parents opportunities to engage with the learning already taking place within classrooms.

In our Early Years classrooms, this may include opportunities such as reading with children, while older year levels may involve parents assisting during particular projects, activities or celebrations throughout the year.

Teachers will communicate classroom opportunities and arrangements directly with families through SeeSaw as appropriate.

We are also trialing the opening of the school library during morning times from 8:30am on Wednesdays and Thursdays as a welcoming space for parents to come in and read with their children before the start of the school day. This commences from Week 5.

We look forward to continuing to strengthen the strong sense of community and partnership that makes Queen of Apostles such a special place for our students and families.

🚶‍♂️ Walk Safely to School Day – Friday 22 May

We’re excited to be taking part in Walk Safely to School Day on Friday 22 May! This national event encourages students and families to build healthy habits by walking to school, while also promoting road safety awareness.

Walking to school is a wonderful way to support your child’s physical health, independence, and wellbeing. It also helps reduce traffic congestion around our school, making drop-off times safer for everyone.

👉 How you can support this day:

  • If possible, walk the whole way to school with your child
  • Or consider parking a short distance away and walking the rest of the journey together
  • Take the opportunity to talk about safe road crossing practices, including holding hands for younger children

By making small changes like parking further away, we can all help create a safer, healthier school environment.

Let’s work together to keep our students active and safe!

Yr 6 students will greet walkers at the school gates to give a free 'Walk Safely To School Day tattoo!

Volunteers Volunteers

The Government of WA have amended the Working with Children Act last year with the changes implemented to better protect children. Catholic Education WA has mandated this process for all volunteers, including parent volunteers in schools. This includes parents who wish to volunteer at sports carnivals, in classrooms and at P&F events. Could we ask that all parents fill in the Volunteer Declaration (link) even if you have no plans at this stage to volunteer at school. Parents who wish to assist teachers on excursions will need to be on this list. Your information will be stored securely in accordance with CEWA’s Information Stewardship. We highly value parent volunteers' time and contribution to our school community and thank-you for taking the time to submit the form below.

Any grandparents that wish to volunteer in the classroom or assist in the canteen will need a Working With Children Check. Please note this does not include drop off, pick up or attendance at our Grandparents Mass and Morning Tea. Grandparents that would like to volunteer at school, please contact the school office and we can assist you in the process.
