A Message From the Principal
Dear Academy Families and Friends,
Happy Labor Day! I hope this finds you well,
The new school year is underway! Opening this past Thursday was incredible. Students in grades 1-5 jumped right back in like they never left and the Kindergarten Orientation was very well attended! It was great to see kids and families return with big smiles on their faces, pose for those 1st day photos and report to their new classrooms diligently. On Friday, we rolled out the PBIS expectations around our hallmark, ROAR (Respect Ownership Achievement, Responsibility) in our classes as well as throughout the school to start the year off on the right foot and building routines.
We also kicked off our school lunch program. This year, our food services will be using the student's local identifier number (aka LASID #) to order lunch. This number begins with a 5-1-0 and then 5 digits that is attached to their Aspen profile. Students practiced using cards and did a great job on Friday doing it for the first time. We had plenty of staff on hand to help them use the pin pad on the cafeteria servery. We ask families at home to practice using their LASID as it will make lunch run smoother and keep the lunch line moving quickly, giving the children more time eating and socializing with friends.
I am so impressed with the morning and afternoon arrival/dismissal procedures, especially in regards to using the top lot. As part of our safety plan, we close off the driveways daily at 8:55AM and 3:10PM to make sure students can safely move on foot safely around campus to and from school each day. We definitely had a lot of walkers on the first couple of days, but as the weather continues to cool, top lot use will certainly increase. Thank you so much for keeping our campus safe for pedestrian traffic as well as not parking on the lower lot or roundabouts.
Lastly, this Friday, the National Day of Service and Remembrance marks the 25th anniversary of 9/11. We will be doing several activities to remember the date as well as having students create cards for first responders as we recall their role on that important day in American history.
Have a wonderful remainder of your Labor Day weekend,
Mr. Patrick J. Higgins

Things to Know
Here are a few things to think/know about for the upcoming start of school:
- The school day starts at First Bell (8:50AM) and the late bell rings at 9:05AM. Please make every effort to have your child present and on time every day! The end of the day bell rings at 3:15 PM. Also please avoid standing or parking on or around the roundabout circle before and after school as buses will be loading and unloading in this area. Parking on campus is only allowed on the top lot before and after school.
Getting to know your LASID # (the local identifier)
Every student has a local ID # or LASID assigned to their Aspen profile. This year, it is particularly important as students need to learn it, memorize it as it will be their lunch ticket # they need to type into the pin pad each day. It is an 8 digit number starting with 5-1-0 plus 5. While this might take a bit of time to memorize, the good news is that it is the number that will stay with them through high school. Please practice this number with your child to help put this to memory
