D65 Sustainability: Special Apr 26

Join Us: Electric School Bus 🚌⚡ Ribbon Cutting this Saturday
We hope you will join us for our Electric School Bus Ribbon Cutting! This exciting event is scheduled for 12:30pm this Saturday (April 18) at Fleetwood-Jourdain with Superintendent Dr. Angel Turner, School Board Leadership and D65 students.
In celebration of 10 new EV school buses rolling out soon with D65, one EV school bus will be at the Cardboard Carnival and ready for the community to explore. Engaging activities will include hopping on the new EV bus, educational coloring sheet & crayons, fun facts about EV school buses, and giveaways from STA (Positive Connections). A bus staff member will also be at the event to answer any technical questions that attendees may have.
STA and D65 anticipate the EV school buses could start serving D65 students as early as this spring but definitely by the start of next school year. The plan is to use the 10 EV school buses on our double routes to maximize the number of students getting to experience the EV buses.

Congrats to Taylor! Winning Recycling Truck Student Art Design
Congratulations to Nichols 8th Grader Taylor, who is part of our STEP program! Her original graphic design will be our newest artwork to be displayed on a City of Evanston recycling truck!
Taylor's design received the most votes in the Recycling Truck Student Art Design Competition, hosted by the City of Evanston and District 65. In honor of America Recycles Day (November 15), the annual contest challenged students to create original artwork focused on building awareness of the City's newest recycling tool, Recycle Coach and "build better habits & get wiser about waste".
Keep an eye out for the newly wrapped truck rolling around Evanston in 2026!
