If you would like a tutorial on how to use Overdrive, visit the library and Ms. Watts will be happy to help get you started!

Happy Reading!

Overdrive Goal = 400 Checkouts this Fall! Overdrive Goal = 400 Checkouts this Fall!

The Huebner Library's Overdrive goal this month is to increase our checkouts by 25% over last fall's numbers. Help us reach our goal by becoming an Overdrive user!

Throughout the month of October, students in grades 3-5 will have lessons on how to check-out books in Overdrive. Join us anytime for one of the lessons!

Also starting this month, students in 4th and 5th grades will have the opportunity to check out Nexus readers to access their digital books.

Friends of North East Libraries Friends of North East Libraries

A Friends of North East Libraries (FONEL) organization has been started to advocate for NEISD libraries. FONEL will work to raise awareness of the impact school libraries have on the instructional programs at schools. They will also connect and engage the community in activities that support school library programs. This summer, the Friends' organization encouraged reading at our elementary summer school campuses by providing bookmarks and pencils for every student, and brought Storytellers to each summer school site.

We encourage you to become a Friend of the North East Libraries organization to help them with their mission. There are 5 levels of Friendship...

Individual - $5

Family - $10

Patron - $50

Organization - $100

Lifetime - $250

Please click on this FLYER or email Ms. Watts if you are interested in supporting FONEL. Membership donations and the flyer can be turned into the Huebner Library.

October Events October Events

Many great things are taking place in the library this October!
  • Preschool Story-time "Pumpkin Patch": October 21 - Bring your little ones to the library for a fun story-time all about the pumpkin patch!
  • Literary Pumpkin Patch: October 24-28- Plant a pumpkin that is decorated as your favorite book character in our annual Literary Pumpkin Patch!
  • Read for the Record: October 27 - Join us as we try to break a world-record for reading the same book on the same day with millions of others around the country. This year's title is The Bear Ate Your Sandwich. To find out more about Read for the Record, visit Jumpstart's website.

Literary Pumpkin Patch

Huebner Library is growing a literary pumpkin patch again, and we need your

help! Decorate a pumpkin to look like one of your favorite book characters,

and bring it to the library to plant in our Literary Pumpkin Patch!

NO CARVED OR CUT PUMPKINS WILL BE ACCEPTED

  • Think of one your favorite books and decorate a pumpkin based on your favorite character from that book.
  • Purchase a pumpkin that is no larger in size than a basketball.
  • Gather your decorating supplies. Acrylic paints or permanent markers work best. Watercolors tend to run, and spray paint will gradually dissolve the pumpkin.
  • Other options include gluing materials such as yarn, buttons, wiggly eyes, etc.
  • Decorate your pumpkin without carving, cutting, or poking holes in it.
  • Only one pumpkin per student.
  • You may bring your pumpkin to the library starting Monday, October 26th.
  • Pumpkins are to be taken home at the end of school on Friday, October 30th.
  • Participation is completely voluntary. This is not a contest.

Have fun and be creative!
