A Message From Mrs. Carmody A Message From Mrs. Carmody

Hello, Fremont Families!

What a joyful first week it has been at Fremont Elementary School! Our Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders are already settling into routines, making new friends, and diving into learning with excitement. Classrooms are buzzing with curiosity, kindness, and the beginnings of strong community.

Thank you for helping your child transition so smoothly—consistent routines at home and open communication make such a difference. Please continue checking backpacks daily for notes and updates, and reach out if you have any questions along the way.

Please make sure that the office knows of any transportation changes as early as possible. We appreciate your patience as we all get used to our dismissal routines!

We are so excited for the year ahead and grateful to partner with you in your child’s journey. Together, we’ll make this a wonderful year of growth and discovery.

Sincerely,

Beth Carmody

Principal

Please follow the dismissal procedures below every Wednesday. Any changes to your child's Wednesday dismissal plan need to be communicated by 2:15pm. The sooner we know the better!

  • Students Getting Pick Up at 3:08 p.m.- We will begin the parent pick up process at 3:08 p.m. If you have any changes, please email your child's homeroom teacher and Aura Perez Cruces at aperezcruces@fsd79.org.

If you have any changes, please email your child's homeroom teacher and Aura Perez Cruces at aperezcruces@fsd79.org.

As a reminder to families whose children are participating in the no-cost Wednesday Right at School after-school program, that program will not begin until September 10. Please plan accordingly to have your child take bus transportation home or have parent pick-up at the end of the school day on August 27 and September 3.

Assessments Assessments

Three times a year we assess our students to see where they are on their personal learning path. We look for what supports or enrichments they may need. We will be continuing our use of the NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test for all students. This is an untimed, computer based test that individually adjusts as a student answers the questions. As they answer correctly, the questions get harder. This testing will begin next Monday, September 8.

This year, our District will assess reading skills for students in grades 1-5. We will be using a one-minute oral reading fluency (ORF) test, administered three times a year. Oral reading fluency evaluates how well a student reads aloud with accuracy, speed, and expression. This measure is a key indicator of reading proficiency and is closely tied to overall reading comprehension and academic success. The ORF test will help us more precisely identify students who may need additional support, customize instruction to meet individual needs, and track progress over time. In the winter, we will also introduce a similar screening for Kindergarten, focusing on early literacy skills. These will be administered in an individual setting.

FSD79 Family Handbook 2025-2026 FSD79 Family Handbook 2025-2026

As we begin the 2025–2026 school year, please take a moment to review the FSD79 Family Handbook, which outlines important school expectations, policies, and procedures to support your child’s success. We also encourage you to review the FSD79 Behavior Matrix, which details our behavioral expectations and the supports and consequences in place to help students succeed.

Attendance is crucial. Regular attendance fosters dependability, responsibility, and academic achievement. Students who attend

  • Consistently stay on track,

  • Engage fully with lessons,

  • Participate in discussions,

  • Collaborate with peers, and

  • Receive timely feedback from teachers.

This active participation improves understanding, retention, and overall performance. At FSD79, we prioritize attendance to create a supportive environment where every student feels valued and empowered to succeed. Our goal is to support all students and ensure equitable access to education.
