Girls Basketball: A Week of Challenges and Triumphs
On Tuesday, Monarch faced off against Mead, the top team in the Granite Peaks League. Just after tipoff, Mead's talented starting five came out strong, quickly building a significant lead before Monarch could find their rhythm. Rattled by a relentless full-court press, our Coyotes struggled to get into their groove, allowing the Mavericks' lead to swell. Despite Ginger Milot contributing 10 points and Sienna Williams securing an impressive 16 rebounds, the Monarch girls' varsity basketball team suffered a tough loss, with a final score of 59-24.
Though the sting of defeat lingered that evening, the girls remained focused, knowing they had to prepare for an away game against another formidable opponent. On Friday, Monarch traveled to Erie High School, a team that narrowly lost to Mead earlier in the season by just one point.
The Monarch girls' varsity team came out hungry and determined against Erie. From the start, loyal fans witnessed a newfound sense of confidence and poise from our Coyotes. The game saw thrilling runs from both teams, but Monarch showcased their resilience and commitment to their game plan. The result was a significant team victory led by Charlotte Weiss, who delivered an outstanding performance with 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. With this win, the Monarch girls' varsity basketball team improved to 3-1 in league play, sealing the game at 38-32.
In the JV matches, the Monarch girls faced similar challenges against the same opponents. The Mead and Erie JV teams not only displayed skill but also boasted a deep bench that allowed them to maintain fresh players throughout the game. This depth proved to be a challenge for our Coyotes. Although the JV girls' basketball team remains winless this season, the effort from both the athletes and coaches is evident, as we see continuous improvement with each game. This resilient group is finding ways to play better together while enjoying the competition against tough opponents.
Looking Ahead: Exciting Matchups This Week!
Next week promises to be thrilling! Monarch will travel to Skyline on Tuesday and Prairie View on Thursday, before hosting Northfield this Saturday. Be sure to carve out a few hours to support our JV and varsity girls' basketball teams on Saturday, January 25, starting at noon with the varsity tipoff against Northfield—a team that narrowly defeated Monarch by two points earlier this season.

Boys Basketball Searching for Momentum
The Boys Varsity Basketball team faced two league games this week, showcasing their skills and determination on the court.
Home Game: Tuesday, January 14 Against Mead
In a thrilling and competitive matchup, Monarch fell to Mead with a final score of 79-71. The game was marked by high scoring, with Logan Laverty leading the Coyotes with an impressive 23 points. He was supported by Ryder Hutton, who contributed 17 points, and Justin Myers, who added 15 points. Despite the team's record-high point total in a loss this season, the defense struggled during crucial moments when stops were needed, allowing Mead to secure the win.
Away Game: Friday, January 17 Against Erie
In another hard-fought battle, the Coyotes faced Erie, ultimately losing 57-45. Logan Laverty once again stepped up as the leading scorer, netting 21 points. Ryder Hutton followed with 8 points, and Justin Myers chipped in 7 points. In stark contrast to Tuesday's high-scoring game, this was the team's lowest point total in a loss this season, as the offense experienced challenges, particularly during key stretches, which allowed Erie to pull away late in the game.
Season Highlights
With nine games remaining in the season, the leading scorers for Monarch are Logan Laverty, averaging 19.5 points per game, and Ryder Hutton, averaging 10.3 points per game. On the boards, Riley Montemayor leads the team with 4.4 rebounds per game, followed closely by Justin Myers with 3.6 rebounds per game. Additionally, Logan Laverty contributes 2.5 assists per game, while Aden Clark averages 1.6 assists per game.
Upcoming Games
The boys are grateful for the unwavering support from fans and are eager to see everyone at their final four home games of the season. This week, the Coyotes will play an away game on Tuesday night against Skyline High School in Longmont. The game schedule is as follows: JV tips off at 4:00 PM, C-Team at 5:30 PM, and Varsity at 7:00 PM. Additionally, the Freshman team will compete against Centaurus and Holy Family at Centaurus High School on Saturday.
Let's rally behind our Coyotes and show our support! Go Monarch!
