As we step into the vibrant month of May, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible accomplishments of our students, staff, and families throughout the school year. With just a few weeks remaining, the energy across our district is filled with excitement and anticipation—from end-of-year celebrations and graduations to final projects and preparations for summer. This time of year is a reminder of the hard work, growth, and resilience our school community has demonstrated. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in making this year a success.

2026-2027 Calendar

The Board of Education has approved the calendar for the 2026-2027 school year. Please note this is subject to change but is a good tool to utilize for planning as changes very likely would not be major.

Staff Appreciation

Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week. I encourage you to take a moment to thank a teacher or staff member and let them know how their efforts have made a positive impact on you. Sharing a specific example of something you appreciate can mean more than you realize.

School Meal Accounts

As we approach the end of the school year, please take a moment to check your child’s meal account balance. Any outstanding negative balances should be paid in full before the last day of school to ensure accounts are cleared for the year. Timely payment helps us maintain smooth cafeteria operations and continue providing quality meal services to all students. For your convenience, payments can be made online using the link below. If you have questions about your balance or need assistance, please contact the school office. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Summer Projects

This summer, our custodial and maintenance teams will be completing a series of projects to maintain and improve our facilities. As in previous years, the majority of this work consists of standard annual upkeep. One notable project involves adjusting our football field to accommodate 8-man football dimensions. Our goal is to relocate the goal posts and repaint them. If relocation is not feasible, we will instead repaint the field with two end zones on the west side to meet requirements. In addition, we have purchased shower partitions for the JV and Varsity boys locker rooms, as well as the junior high girls and boys locker rooms, which will provide increased privacy in spaces that are currently open. We will also be installing additional acoustic paneling in the band room to improve sound control, funded through a Friends of Oakland Foundation grant. Finally, minor concrete repairs will be completed across campus to address routine wear and tear.

Summer Meal Opportunities

The USDA’s Summer Food Service Program provides no-cost meals to children ages 1- 18 years at approved locations across the state. To find information about summer meals sites near you, visit the SFSP Site Finder. *Please note: The Nebraska SFSP sites will be available in the Summer Meals Site Finder after the NDE approves site locations, which will be on approximately May 25, 2026. OC is NOT a Summer Food Service Program site.

Social Emotional Learning

Oakland-Craig offers a great deal of social emotional supports for our students. All students have a weekly guidance lesson with elementary using the Second Step curriculum and the Jr-Sr. High using the Social Institute curriculum. We also offer a mental health club for Jr-Sr. High students. In addition, we do offer the opportunity to participate in individual counseling services for a small number of students each year.

Staff Appreciation Opportunity

If you are looking to show some appreciation to an OC staff member, consider purchasing a beverage from Dillstrom's Fika Kafe. They have a list of staff favorites and deliver to school every Tuesday and Thursday.
