5th Grade Program On Wednesday!

Dear BES Families,

It's getting colder! Please make sure your child has a coat for outside recess. Even if it seems warm enough for a sweatshirt, the wind on the playground is really cold! We try to go outside as much as possible, but we can't let the kids go without proper layers for the weather. We prefer gloves and hats, too. If you child is in need of a coat, hat, or gloves, please let us know and we will get them outfitted for outdoor recess!

The 5th Grade Winter Music program is Wednesday, December 11th at 5:30 p.m. in the LHS auditorium. All students will meet in the LHS Choir room at 5:15. Students are asked to wear their favorite dressy clothes for this special event. Students will be dismissed by class following our performance and we ask you exit through the commons to the activity doors to keep our main entrance at LHS from becoming congested. We are the first program of the evening, so it is important to leave quickly after the 5th graders are finished so there is plenty of parking and less traffic in the parking lot as the middle school families arrive. Please take pictures before the program.

Thank you for your donations, we are still collecting for the seniors tomorrow if interested! Tomorrow also is the start of our PENNY WARS to benefit BES in North Carolina! Read all about it below.

Let's have a great week!

Mindset Minute

During the month of December, we pause our 7 Mindset lessons and take an opportunity to give back to those around us. The mindsets we have discussed first semester - Everything is Possible, We are Connected & Attitude of Gratitude are each put into practice as we kick off our Holiday Challenge. During the first three weeks of December, the BES Holiday Challenge invites kids and families to join us in giving to those around us in simple ways. We will contribute to local senior citizen's holiday baskets, have Penny Wars to benefit an elementary school, BES, in North Carolina , and work to stock the shelves of our local food pantry. Everything is possible when we all give a little! Watch the BES Facebook page each week for more information!

Week-By-Week How You Can Help!

Week 1 - WOW! Thank you for all your donations!!!

Week 2- Penny Wars! BES, Kansas sending love and support to BES, North Carolina!

All proceeds from this week's penny wars will go directly to Banner Elk Elementary PTO to benefit their students and families. Banner Elk, NC is where our building manager, Kelly's son attends college, which is how we became aware of BES and how the community was impacted. From BES principal, Justin Carver - "Our small rural county was devastated by Helene. Our students were out of school for 37 days. Personally, my family was out of power for 19 days. The town of BE had no working water or sewer for 35 days after the storm. We had many families lose everything and almost 50 percent of our students displaced due to water- sewer- power or road access. However- we are rebuilding- recovering and coming back so STRONG because of the love and support of fellow people like you all. Thanks again."

Week 3 - Stock the shelves of our local food pantry! Agape food pantry is an invaluable resource for many in our community, particularly during the holiday season. Join us as we work to stock their shelves with food! Please limit your donations to the following items - Canned chicken/tuna, canned MEAL soup, canned vegetables, peanut butter, and jelly.

Penny Wars Are ON!

Seasonal Support Newsletter

Believe it or not, cold weather and the holiday season are fast approaching. We wanted to share with you some free resources for winter coats, Thanksgiving meal baskets and Christmas gifts (Christmas gift program is for Louisburg children birth to 18). There are deadlines to each that, again, as far away as they seem, will be here in no time. The added expense of winter coats and holiday costs can be a heavy burden. If your family could benefit from a little extra support to ease that burden, then we hope these resources will do just that! Please see our newsletter to learn about some wonderful resources! Attendance and School Calendars Attendance and School Calendars

Receive an Attendance Email from School?

If you receive an attendance letter from school, it is meant to inform you of your student's absences or tardies. This way you can also keep track of the days gone and how to plan ahead to

miss fewer days.

zoom_out_map

Please take note of our school calendars when planning your family's vacations.

Attendance is a focus at BES and we want your children at school! It can be very difficult for students to get caught up sometimes when they miss for extended periods of time. For example, when a student misses a week of school, that is up to 450 minutes of math instruction they are missing!

If your family does have a trip planned, we do not provide lessons or materials ahead of those trips. Teachers will work with you to schedule times when your student can be given that instruction and guided work time to ensure mastery of skills. This may have to happen before or after school, but we will also try to work during the school day as well.

GREAT school habits now help prepare students for future success!
