COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Welcome back, Stonehurst families!
We want your child to be successful in school and that means supporting and encouraging their whole development. While excelling in academic classes is important, children also need to learn how to take on challenges, make good decisions, manage strong emotions, and get along with others.
This year, I will be teaching Second Step Elementary, a research-based program designed to improve these skills and help children both in and out of school. See below for the topics we will cover throughout the year and more information about the program!

MENTAL HEALTH MONTHLY
Welcome Back, Stonehurst! My name is Mrs. Sanders and I am the School Social Worker at Stonehurst. This is the Mental Health Monthly section of the newsletter. The goal of the section is to reduce the stigma associated with mental health and provide quick tips, information, and resources related to mental and behavioral health. I look forward to promoting and supporting the mental health of the Stonehurst community. Please remember that this content is for informational purposes only and she should not be considered a substitute for professional advice or consultation with mental health professionals. If you need help finding mental health professionals in your community, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. This month’s topic is ADHD.

News from the Art Room
In art class we started the year off by making portfolios! A portfolio is a type of folder where artists keep their artwork. Students personalized their portfolio covers with their names, different designs, and favorite colors. Each portfolio will stay in the classroom to collect and organize student projects throughout the year until it is ready to go home.
Additionally, the elements of art (color, line, shape, form, texture, value, and space) were introduced and reviewed. These elements are the tools that make up all forms of artwork and will be referenced in each project throughout the year.
