October 2026
Follow your feet to the greatest treasure of all - a bounty of books! From daring adventures to hidden worlds our Scholastic Book Fair is the place to be! Our in-person bookfair is October 5-9, 2026, but online ordering is already open if you want to preview the fair, pre-order a book, or shop online.
Visit our Sharon Elementary Scholastic Fair webpage to create an eWallet for your child to spend. Remember that our fair can take e-wallet, cash, credit card, debit card, or a check made out to Sharon Elementary School, but that change cannot be given from a check.
Ask your child's teacher for the eWallet link, if you'd like to donate to their classroom library!
Our Scholastic Fair will be open during Cultural Night, too!
Digital Citizenship Lessons
September and October
Last month, students learned about artificial intelligence with slideshows created by our county. Kindergarten and first grade learned about how to tell if something is natural or made by people. Second and third grade learned about real versus fake images, and fourth and fifth grade learned some tips for determining when an image is generated by AI. Our Educational Technology Coach, Mrs. Mulcahey, taught these lessons with grades 3-5 while our Instructional Media Specialist, Mrs. Daniels, taught our K-2 students.
This month, students will work with their school counselor, Mrs. McLane or Mrs. Moore, to learn about cyberbullying in the Neptune Navigate platform.

We Are Definitely Human
by X. Fang
"When three mysterious visitors from 'Europe' crash-land in Mr. Li's field, he does what any good host would: he invites them back to his farmhouse and offers to help fix up their 'car.' No, there's nothing strange about these guests at all. Just like other humans, they 'make business,' 'play sportsball' and 'wear hat.' As the townsfolk also come to the aid of the visitors and the gathering turns into a little party, interplanetary relations reach an all-time high"--Provided by publisher.
Bats Beneath the Bridge
by Janet Nolan
"Discover how the people of Austin, Texas, stopped being afraid of the more than one million bats nesting under the Congress Avenue Bridge and, instead, welcomed them. This true story includes a foreword by bat biologist Dr. Merlin Tuttle, who came to Austin to advocate for the colony by educating residents about the ways in which bats are good for the environment, and for humans too. Now, tourists from all over the world come to Austin to watch the Brazilian free-tail bats fill the sky every evening in early spring"--Provided by publisher.
Go and Get with Rex
by David LaRochelle
"Jack, Jill, and Rex are excited to play a game of Go and Get! The rules are simple: on the count of three, each player must go and get something that begins with a certain letter. While Jack's and Jill's picks always fit the bill (What starts with F? Frog! Fish!), Rex keeps getting it wrong (a duck?)--or does he?"--Publisher.
October Reading Challenge
This month's reading challenge will start October 12th and run through October 30th. This month's challenge is different from past years, as it is a BINGO card of reading choices. Students need to complete any two rows of choices to complete the challenge. Students should then bring their completed BINGO card to the library for this month's reading challenge prize!
Book Character Dress-Up Day - October 30th
Get ready to bring your favorite stories to life! Our school will be hosting a Story Book Character Day on October 30th! Students are invited to come dressed as their favorite story book character. We can’t wait to see all the creative costumes - but please remember, costumes should stay school-friendly. That means no scary outfits and no weapons of any kind. Let's keep it bright, positive, and focused on our favorite stories!
