To celebrate, come visit the media center and see our collection of books by and about women - fiction and non-fiction. And if you want just a quick history lesson on some local "femininomenons" check out this article about three local legends.

It's time for the Battle of the Books!

Our team of six Bookish Buccaneers, featuring Micah Miller, Eden Dierksheide, Abby Guzman, Mia Harness, Nora Lynch and Morgan Johnson are competing at UNCW's Randall Library on March 4! Wish them luck if you see them around!

Also, Please note: The library will be CLOSED WEDNESDAY MARCH 4 for Battle of the Books. It will reopen when I'm back on campus around 1:30 that afternoon. Thanks for your patience.

***The library will also be closed the morning of March 6 so I can help our elementary school counterparts for the Elementary Battle of the Books!

What's everyone reading?

Saving the best for last, March is National Reading Month. In elementary school you all probably remember the Read Across America events that happened and volunteers came in to read to you during class. While we'd love to be able to do that with you today, we know your time is precious, so this month, I just want to know what YOU are reading! Everyone who submits this google form with that you're reading this month will be entered into a drawing for a small prize.

And look around campus for signs like these ---> to see what your teachers are reading!

Quick library stats update!

You all are checking out books more than you have in the last two years at Laney High School - by the end of spring semester, you'll have read about 50 percent more books than kids on campus read in an entire school year since 2023. I'm proud and thankful for all of you! Keep reading, keep bringing me your book recs and keep up the great work!

The Conjuring of America

For our staff pick this month we're reading the non-fiction book, "The Conjuring of America: Mojos, Mermaids, Medicine and 400 Years of Black Women Magic" as a way to celebrate the end of Black History Month and the start of Women's History month, and change things up from our previous fiction rotation. If you haven't joined us yet, consider joining us for this month's pick as it's sure to lead to an amazing discussion! Email Mrs. Simpson to be included on book club communications.

Cape Fear Museum of Science and History presents ...

If you missed our wonderful presentation on Feb. 26 from historian Jan Davidson, she was gracious enough to agree to being recorded, so here is her presentation in full. It was incredible and I think we all learned things that were new to us. Thanks for everyone who came and participated.
