The Mega-Meter Challenge: A Lesson in Teamwork
Biology students were presented with a deceptively simple challenge: lower a meter stick to the ground while supporting it from underneath using only their index fingers. What seemed easy at first quickly turned into a surprisingly difficult task.
Working in small teams, students had to rely on patience, adaptability, and—most critically—effective communication. As the activity progressed, teams were merged into larger groups, eventually culminating in a class-wide effort to lower a massive “mega-meter stick.”
The exercise proved both fun and frustrating, sparking valuable conversations about group dynamics, collaboration, and the importance of shared focus in achieving a common goal.
Congrats, Ava!
Congratulations to Ava for committing to South Dakota Mines for Girls' Basketball! We wish you all the best!!

Picture Day Is Coming Friday, Sept 5!
~IMPORTANT: Network Photography complies with Wisconsin State requirements for all Identification Photos.
Consistent with driver's licenses, state ID's and passports - subjects may not wear any hat / hood / head covering / costume or alter their face in any way, shape or form (religious and cultural head coverings / medical exceptions are made).
- High School and Middle School students will be photographed on Friday, Sept 5. Meaning, we have to move quickly. You will be excused alphabetically by grade. You will proceed to the PAC to have your photo taken and you will then report back to class. You will not be allowed to wait for your friends, to dawdle in the hallways or go to the bathroom or your locker.
- You may not take your phone with you to the PAC, it needs to remain in the classroom.
- Due to the large number of students who need to have their pictures taken on this day, we may run into lunch time. If you have not had your photo taken by your lunch time, you may eat lunch and then go right into the PAC to have your photo taken, and then return back to the lunchroom.
- The PAC will be CLOSED that day.
REMINDER ABOUT CHROMEBOOKS!!
Students, remember to charge your chrome books AT HOME every night and bring them back to school the next day. We only have loaner Chromebooks for those who need their chrome books serviced in some way. So again, make your sure chargers are kept at HOME and that you are charging your Chromebooks at night so they are ready for the next day!
OPEN PAC During Lunch Reminders: STUDENTS PLEASE READ
- Behavior expectations remain the same in the PAC as they are in the classroom.
- You may be in the cafeteria or in the PAC. You may not leave out the West side doors to use the bathroom, you must get a pass from staff on lunch duty.
- Inappropriate language and behaviors are not allowed and will result in you being removed for the next day. This includes tackling, rough, aggressive play, throwing balls at others, kicking balls across the gym and using profanity.
- You may NOT bring open food into the gym.
- EVERYONE needs to help clean up when the bell rings. It is not ok to just kick the balls to the corner of the gym for someone else to clean up.
- Nothing should be left in the gym, including water bottles, chips, trash...

- Remember, it is a PRIVILEGE to have the gym open during that time and if you wish to see it continue to be open, you need to be following all behavior expectations.
