DKMS Newsletter
"It's a great day to be a Panther"
December 9th - December 13th
Principals Message
Happy Monday Panther Families! Because of the snow day you get two newsletters this week for the price of one!
Friday December 20, 2024 is the end of the second marking period. Students still have time to talk with their teachers about how they can earn the best grade possible. Students also have the opportunity to stay after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm for Success Center. This is an excellent opportunity to get tutoring from a teacher and work on assignments. Students need to be picked up at 4:00 pm because we do not offer transportation home.
I want to thank our Student Council led by Mrs. Lebeck, for organizing our 12 Spirit Days that began last Thursday (actually Friday). We encourage students to participate if they want, but ask that any clothes, hats, lights, etc. are school appropriate and do not disrupt the learning environment. If clothes are not school appropriate or items disrupt the learning environment, we will ask students to change or put items in their locker. The list of Spirit Days are further down in the newsletter.
With winter temperatures and weather finally upon us, I would like to remind both parents and students that all of our students go outside for recess every day. The only two exceptions to that is when it is rainy or it is extremely cold (temperatures in the single digits). It is important students wear clothes that will keep them warm outside (coats, hats, gloves, etc.). If your child is in need of outdoor wear, please either contact the middle school office at (269) 623-1541 or email our counselor Sarah Collins at sarah.collins@dkschools.org.
Due to the snow day last Thursday, our Winter Band Concert will be held at 7:00 pm Thursday December 12, 2024 in the high school LGI.
As always I would like to thank our students, staff, families, and community for their hard work and support. We are getting close to the end of the marking period and a 2 week Winter Break. It would be easy to coast to the end, but Panthers finish strong! Talk to you in a few days!
It's a great day to be a PANTHER!
Thank you,
Bobby Tillman

Thank You, Andrea Kellogg, for the Holiday Snowman Project
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Andrea Kellogg, a generous parent, for providing all of the art supplies for a festive art project to decorate the entrance doors of our middle school for the holiday season.
We would also like to thank Junior Homister and Grady Matteson (Heidi Matteson) for generously donating the wood used in this project.
The students chosen to participate were Panther Paw Winners—students who demonstrated the values of SK2R (Safe, Kind, Responsible, Respectful), maintained good academic grades, and had no behavioral issues.
Thank you, Andrea, for making this holiday project possible and for your continued support of our students and school community!
A Wonderful Opportunity for Our Band Students
On Friday, December 6th, Mrs. Knight took our 7th and 8th Grade Middle School and High School Band students to the Brass Band of Battle Creek concert at the Kellogg Auditorium in Battle Creek. What an incredible experience for our students to see and hear such a talented group of musicians perform live!
A big thank you to Mrs. Knight for organizing this special outing and giving our students a chance to enjoy this amazing event!
