Bus Update Bus Update

With the additional traffic, the bus from WBHS needs to leave earlier than it has been. Students that need to take the bus from WBHS to OEC need to be to WBHS by 7:20 becuas the bus will now leave WBHS at 7:25!

If you plan on using the shuttle, you do need to register. Please call transportation- (248) 865-3680 ASAP to get on their list.

Medical Conditions Medical Conditions

If your student has a medical condition, this is something the school needs to know about. When you enrolled at OEC, you would've filled this out during enrollment. If you forgot to include that information, please reach out to Mrs. Kremer right away so we can have that documented. It's really important for us to be aware of these things in case there is ever an issue.

If your student self-carries medication (even Benadryl or an EpiPen) this is something we also need to know. There is documentation that we have to have on file. Ms. Shirley has been tracking students down to get this information so please return those documents to her right away.

If you self-carry and didn't get that documentation from Ms. Shirley, please stop by and see her to pick up the necessary forms.

Reporting Absences/Tardies Reporting Absences/Tardies

To report an absence or tardy, please call Mrs. Kremer in the main office- 248-522-3541. If she doesn't answer, please leave a voicemail and she will address it as soon as she can.

For absences, these need to be reported within 24 hours.

If you have questions about attendance policies, please refer to the WBSD handbook.

Prayer Forms Prayer Forms

In order to miss class time for prayer, you must complete the prayer permission slip with a parent signature. Permission slips can be found in the main office with Mrs. Kremer and turned back into her once completed. Once you have turned in your permission slip, Mrs. Kremer will update our master list with your name.

Starting on Tuesday, September 22, you must be on the prayer list if you intend to pray during your class time. If you have any questions, please let me know

Activity Fee Activity Fee

Every year we get to go on a lot of great field trips. In order to do this, we collect an activity fee from students. This year we had to increase the fee because of the increase in gas prices and event prices across the board. The activity fee is $50 per semester. You can pay it all at once, or pay it by semester, totally up to you. The activity fee can be turned in to Mrs. Kremer.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Curriculum Night Curriculum Night

Our Curriculum Night is Monday, September 14 beginning at 6:00 PM. Our curriculum night is a little bit different than what you may have experienced at other schools. Instead of traveling from teacher to teacher to hear about their class, we will all meet in one room and you will have the opportunity to meet all of our teachers and learn a little bit about them. You will have time to ask questions and speak with teachers individually after the fact if needed.

Curriculum night will take place in building J in room 293. J building is in the middle part of campus. When you come from the parking lot, it's right by the Smith Theatre.

13th Grade Parent/Guardian Info Night 13th Grade Parent/Guardian Info Night

Mrs. Wieland and I host a special information session for 13th graders. There is a lot to cover and we want you to have all the information you need. Please join us on Tuesday, September 15 at 6pm over zoom. It will be recorded and emailed out after, if you cannot make it.

Here is the Zoom link.

Lunch Order Lunch Order

If you are interested in lunch for next week, please fill out the form by Sunday evening at 11:59pm.

School Lunch School Lunch

Currently students can receive breakfast and lunch for free, regardless of income status. However, we really need all families to complete the documentation to ensure we can get the right funding.

To help West Bloomfield School District secure critical state and federal funding, we need
ALL families to complete the Education & Nutrition Benefits Application (formerly known as the Free & Reduced Meals Application).

Complete the application today at: https://westbloomfield.familyportal.cloud/

Other benefits of this program are free/reduced SAT testing fees if you take an additional test outside of OEC in the spring. Also, families can qualify for Summer EBT cards with the state when the program runs.

Post-Graduation Information and Resources Post-Graduation Information and Resources

The Michigan Department of Education has a wonderful website that includes some great resources for post-graduation opportunities. This is a great resource for all students, whether you are in 9th grade and just beginning to think about post-graduation or are in 13th grade and that time is quickly approaching!

OCC Emergency Notifications OCC Emergency Notifications

OCC has their own emergency alert notification app. Every OEC student should sign up for this, and I would encourage parents/guardians to do so as well. If the Orchard Ridge campus is closed for any reason, OEC is also closed. I am not always told in advance if the campus is closed, so this is a great thing to have on your phone.

Here is the information for getting set up with their system.

Canvas Instructions Canvas Instructions

Our teachers utilize Canvas to post assignments, updates and have a place for submit assignments. As a parent/guardian, you can be an observer in Canvas. This allows you to see what your student sees and gives you an idea of what's happening day-to-day in the classroom. For instructions on how to be an "observer" please click on this link.
