Principal's Message
Thank you to all our families who were able to attend our first Monthly Assembly of the school year on Thursday. It was so great to see all the families supporting the success of our students! Thank you!
As you may know, unless there is further notice from the division, labor action in the form of a strike, across Alberta begins on Monday, October 6th. Elk Island Public Schools will share communication Surnday evening with the most current information regarding potential job action. Here are a few important considerations if schools will be closed due to a strike:
- During a strike schools will be closed to students and families. For our school this includes students in our PALS, Quest, and French Immersion programs.
- All scheduled school activities will be cancelled or postponed during the strike.
- Parent-Teacher Interviews are currently scheduled for Oct. 16 and 21 for our PALS, Quest, and French Immersion grades 1 to 6 families. Depending on the length of the strike, those interview dates may be rescheduled. We will communicate more information when we are back. Once the school reopens, families will be sent the link to book parent-teacher interviews.
- Edge Photography will communicate with the school if they will need to reschedule our picture days to ensure they can accommodate all the schools they work with. Again, we will communicate more information when we are back.
- During a strike, teachers and administrators will not have access to school email or any division resources.
- During a strike, teachers are not permitted to send home school work, nor will newsletters or any communication be sent from the school.
- Students were instructed to take home items from their lockers, including their indoor shoes.
We wish all our Grizzlies well and we look forward to seeing you all soon!
Picture Day
We will update you as things develop on when the picture day will be once we have more information. Stay tuned.
Hot Lunches
Hi EPE families,
With the potential upcoming teachers strike, I have received some questions about if families should cancel their upcoming orders. Going forward, I will be canceling Hot Lunch dates one at a time as the strike continues. I will be doing this on the Monday that the orders close and will be notifying everyone via email. For now, if you'd like your child to receive a Hot Lunch, you can order as usual. If a date needs to be canceled because of the strike, refunds will be issued to your munchalunch account as a credit for future lunches.
Thank you for your understanding,
Genista
