Message from the Principal

Dear Ryan Elementary Community,

Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students begin CMAS testing this week. Please reinforce the importance for your kids to try their best and acknowledge their hard work. We look forward to celebrating our students that participate with a Ryan CMAS A.G.E. medal. At Ryan, A.G.E. with CMAS stands for attendance, grit and effort. If interested in learning more, please see the kick-of video for more details.

Do you want to have a peek into what your kids will be doing for CMAS? I think it is interesting to see the format and levels of complexity by engaging with the CMAS released practice items at this link. Click on the green bar for your preferred content, click on a grade level and then choose an “online item set”.

Here are a few videos we shared with students today:

Eclipse tips from Mr. Appling

Ryan CMAS Kick-Off Video

We feel very fortunate that we were able to provide one pair of NASA approved solar glasses for each student to view the partial eclipse during their mid-day recess time. We used our STEAM funds to make this happen. Stay tuned for feedback you will be able to provide for our school to continue to build and improve our STEAM focus at Ryan next year.

It’s always a great day to be a Rhino! Go Rhinos!

Sincerely,

Stephanie Jackman

Principal

Book Fair Update

The Ryan Library is very excited to share the book fair profits! We raised $3,126.44 for the library! There are now 841 more books in students' hands and homes. Thank you to everyone who volunteered, shopped, and visited the book fair. Your support means the world to our students! Some of the money raised will be used to redesign the reading nooks of our library. Fifth graders are working on this project to make our library a more comfy, inclusive, and fun place to read and learn.

Cafeteria Update

Ryan Elementary has been approved for the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) by the USDA. This provision ensures that all students will continue to receive free breakfast and lunch and providing access to nutritious meals for every student, regardless of their economic circumstances. CEP removes the burden of applying for free or reduced meal benefits for families.

We intend to transition to CEP at your school on Monday, April 8th.

In light of the transition to CEP, there will be some adjustments to our breakfast and lunch service process. Primarily, we will no longer have a cashier, and students will not need to enter their student IDs at the end of the lunch line.

Additionally, while this change to CEP means that there will be no changes in meal access for our students, we want to clarify second meals for students will still require payment, $2.50.

We are confident that these changes will enhance the efficiency and inclusivity of our dining experience for both students and staff alike. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

PTA Update

Join the PTA Board!

The PTA is looking for two awesome people to join our board next school year! We have openings for a Co-President and a Secretary; both are two-year terms, and you'll be joining our current Co-President and Treasurer. Each year, the PTA supports school activities and programs not currently funded by the BVSD budget, such as funding field trips, supplementing after-school activities, and providing essential supplies and support for classroom instruction. We plan two major fundraising events each school year, and we also help support fun activities at the school like the Fall Festival, STEAM Nights, and more! If you're interested in learning more, please reach out to leadership@ryanelementarypta.org. If you have specific questions about the Secretary position, you can also contact communications@ryanelementarypta.org. Joining the PTA board is a great way to stay connected to the school and its current events!

PTA Community Meeting - Tuesday, April 23, ON ZOOM

Join us for our next community meeting on Tuesday, April 23, from 6:30–7:30pm. This meeting will be held ON ZOOM (meeting link), but all members of the Ryan community are welcome to participate! Message from Ms. Chrystal in the Health Room

  • Healthy students are better learners, please keep your child home if they feel ill, CDPHE’s Illness Policy for Students and Staff in School and Child Care: Policy

  • Please remember to send your child a change of clothes, especially in our younger elementary grades but it would be great if every kiddo had a full set of spare clothes in their backpack including socks and underwear. We have all sorts of accidents and often kiddos prefer clothes of their own and don't forget gloves and hats too.

Attendance Annoucement

If your child has an appointment during school hours, please ask the medical office for a school excuse note and bring it to the Ryan office.

To report your child's absences, please enter it through your Parent Portal or call the Attendance Line 720.561.7002 and remember to include the REASON FOR THE ABSENCE!

We understand sometimes our students need to be out for an extended period of time. We ask, if you know your child will be out for more than 3 days, to please fill out this form in addition to reporting the absence through the portal or attendance line.

Good habits start early! Research shows regular attendance at school has a DRAMATIC impact on student progress. Please see the How Sick Is To Sick guidelines as well as the BVSD attendance policy.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering is a fun, simple way to get involved within the Ryan community. We have all sorts of opportunities to get involved. Whether you volunteer regularly in your teacher’s classroom or bring treats and coffee to teachers for late start or volunteer for the upcoming book fair, the impact can be huge. Not only does it benefit the school but it benefits your kids and families in our community as well! Please take a moment to explore this link: https://www.bvsd.org/parents-students/get-involved/volunteers you may need the Raptor check or CBI Background fingerprint check. These are both good for 12 months.

We appreciate your help! Thanks!

BVSD's School Messenger support and notifications

Boulder Valley School District recently tested their emergency alert system.

The test alert included a phone call, text message and email to those opted in to receive BVSD Communications.

Users can adjust their communication preferences as desired via these instructions.

If you did not receive a text message, and would like to opt-in to receive text messages from the district and schools through SchoolMessenger, opting-in is a two-step process:

  • The person's cell phone number must be in a cell phone field in Infinite Campus (students/parents) or Infor/Lawson (employees).
  • They then send a text message from their cell phone to “67587” with the word “yes” in the message. They may opt-out at any time by texting “STOP” to 67587.
