Hello, Oakhurst Families -

I want to let you know that we will begin using a new Visitor Management System that is a part of our Centegix Safety System. The new equipment will check in all visitors to the building through a State-issued ID or driver's license. This extra safety measure will notify our front office if there is an individual who does not need to be on our campus.

  • All visitors must show their valid state-issued ID/Driver's license when checking in as a volunteer, classroom visitor or attendee for a school event.
  • Please make sure you have proper Identification when you enter the building.
  • All visitors must enter and exit through the front lobby.
  • Once your ID has been scanned, you will receive a lanyard with a Centegix badge. This must be worn when the visitor is in the building.
  • Upon checkout, the badge is returned and the visitor is checked out.
  • Parents checking their child in or out but not remaining in the building will still follow our Checkmate system in Infinite Campus. ID is required.

Beginning Monday, September 8th, we will be asking all visitors to show their ID when coming to the office. This is a safety protocol that we must follow with consistency, even though our front office staff know our families and many of our visitors.

Congratulations, Maki!

Congratulations to 2nd grader Makeda B. for being selected as Oakhurst's representative to the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council. Student members will share their perspectives and experiences with the Superintendent on a variety of issues, offering a two-way system of communication between students and the Office of the Superintendent. We know that our students are in great hands with Maki representing them at the Wilson Center!

The Oakhurst Birthday Book program gives you the opportunity to both honor your child on their birthday and help our library collection continue to grow. To honor your child with a birthday book donation, send $20 exact cash or check (made payable to Oakhurst Elementary School) by Friday, September 12. We welcome friends or other family members to participate in this program as well. Families are not limited to one book.

After receiving your donation, your child will choose a new library book during their birthday month during library time. We will affix a book dedication label to the inside of the book your child chooses, indicating that the book is donated in their honor to our library. We would like for you to write a special message that will be printed on the label.

Your child may keep the new book for two weeks before returning it to the library. This book checkout will be in addition to the regular library book(s). We’ll also send you a pic of your child with the book!

This form was sent home in last week's folder and will not be sent home again at any time this year. You may print one here. This form must be submitted, along with payment, by Friday, September 12th. August birthdays will be celebrated in September and June and July birthdays will be celebrated in May.

Oakhurst Gifted Program Recommendations

Each fall semester the Gifted review team looks at existing student data to discuss students’ needs and determine if further evaluation for gifted identification is needed. If you are interested in having the team discuss your child’s needs, you may complete a Recommendation for Review Form (found at the website below) and turn it in to the Gifted & Talented Specialist at your child’s school before Wednesday, October 1. No additional information is needed.

The Gifted & Talented Specialists for Oakhurst are Amanda Lockwood and Courtney Hartnett. For more detailed information about the review process and to obtain a copy of the Recommendation for Review Form, please contact the Gifted & Talented Specialist for your school at alockwood@csdecatur.net or visit the following website: https://www.csdecatur.net/our-district-5f/departments/teaching-and-learning/gifted-and-talented-services
