The SHARK Alert
Chatham Elementary School Community Update
January 26, 2025
Dear CES SHARKS & Friends,
Over the last few weeks many of our students have been learning about the legacy of civil-rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. At last week's SHARK Assembly, the 3rd grade students shared inspirational quotes from Dr. King and how his words apply to us today. The students used words like kindness, acceptance, honesty, and respect to describe our school community. During the presentation, one of Dr. King's quotes stood out for me, "We may have all come on different ships, but we're in the same boat now." I believe, that CES is a safe harbor to dock our boat - a place where students, staff, and families are safe to learn, grow, and celebrate our unique traits. I am grateful every day to be part of this amazing collection of students, educators, and families, and thank you for your continuing support of our school.
Wishing you peace,
Dr. Kelly
Celebrating the Words of Dr. King
The students of Ms. Turco and Mr. Anglim's class spent time learning about the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Using the inspirational words of Dr. King, the students reflected and shared what Dr. King's words mean to them. Both classes presented at Wednesday's SHARK Assembly. Their words and Dr. King's words are proudly displayed in our main hallway for all to enjoy.
"Taking care of younger siblings and younger sharks makes the world a better place to live." Cora H.
"I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word." MLK Jr.
"It is important to be smart and kind because kindness will make the world a better place." Kayla T.
