Construction at MT this Year

With the spring bond issue authorizing some additions to our building, you may have noticed construction fencing going up around MT in the last week. Specifically, the fencing put in place near the activities entrance has removed some parking spots and will slightly displace the typical carloop flow. This change will not be significant, but thank you for going slow and making sure you do not drive through or around any construction barriers. More info and a traffic flow map will be coming soon!

ParentSquare Communication Platform

This fall, USD 232 will be launching ParentSquare as a new communication platform. This move will put school, district, and classroom communication into one place, making it easier for you to connect with families and for families to stay informed and engaged. We’re offering ParentSquare in response to the new Kansas law (House Bill 2299) that adds new restrictions on employee communication with students and families. The law is to help protect students and staff.

Stay tuned for more information !

Community Partner Hub

USD 232 is looking to connect with guest speakers, businesses, organizations, and community groups interested in supporting our students. If you or someone you know would like to partner with our schools through career exploration, classroom presentations, mentorship, internships, or other opportunities, we'd love to hear from you! Visit our Community Partner Hub to learn more and submit your interest.

IMPORTANT: New State Law on Student Personal Electronic Devices

Dear Parents and Guardians,
We want to make you aware of a NEW Kansas law, effective for the upcoming school year, that prohibits students' personal electronic devices during the school day. See flyer below.

** What's Changing **
Students are now prohibited from using or accessing personal electronic communication devices (cell phones, tablets, smartwatches, wireless earbuds, smart glasses, etc.) during the school day while on district property. Devices must be powered off and inaccessible from the start of school until dismissal.

** Limited Exceptions **

There are limited exceptions when there is no other reasonable option available when:
- Required to implement a student's IEP or 504 plan, or
- Approved in writing by a licensed physician as a medical necessity for the student's health or well-being.
If your student has an IEP, 504 plan, or a documented medical need, and they need to be considered for a limited exception, please contact the office.

** What We're Asking of Families **
- Talk with your student about this new expectation before the first day of school.
- It may be easiest to simply leave devices at home
- Know that the district is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal devices brought to school.
- Devices may be used before/after the school day and students may use a school phone to reach a parent if needed.

** What Happens If the Law Isn't Followed **
We do not want to see personal electronic devices during the school day. Principals will secure the phone in the office and address violations, with consequences increasing for repeat offenses.
