Monthly Student and Family Newsletter
From the Principal
April 14, 2026
Colts and Colt Families:
As the weather shifts to sunny skies, we begin to make plans for summer. The 1-Pass lottery for SPS students is now available. Dates for incoming 9th grade Colt Kick-Off August 11th-13th are on the calendar. Summer school dates will be announced in the weeks ahead.
And, there are 9 weeks remaining to celebrate students and finish the 2025-26 school year strong. This Friday, April 17th is our Q3 Grading Day. Progress Reports will be sent home. This is a great time to set a goal and recommit - to regular attendance, to passing all classes, to earning a 3.5+ GPA.
Colt Night on April 23rd will showcase more than 50 current student leaders - from an Art Show to Band and Jazz performances, a sneak-peak of our Spring Play (Dracula), and demonstrations in each of our Career-Technical Education pathways.
Upcoming celebrations:
National College Decision Day, May 1st
PBIS Skate Party, May 4th
2026-27 Elected ASB Leaders, May 8th

Students On-Time
We will be placing a heavy emphasis on students getting to class on time in Quarter 4. As the weather gets nicer students sometimes have a tendency to want to spend more time in the hallways or attempting to go off campus during passing times. Please have a conversation with your student around the importance of getting to class on time and finishing the school year strong! Thank you for your support.
Spring Sports
Over 700 students are participating in Spring Sports! As we cheer on our athletes on the field, track, and courts, we are also supporting their success in school with clear expectations for regular attendance (90%+) for all student-athletes to maintain eligibility. See team schedules here. The strength of our athletic participation this season creates opportunities for our teams to break records this spring. Let’s go Colts!
Yearbooks
Act fast to order a copy of the 2026 yearbook. The opportunity to order a book will be ending soon. Yearbooks for the 2025-26 school year can still be purchased for $70 at the following link: 2025-2026 yearbook.
Caring: Taking Care of Our Community
Teacher Appreciation Week
May 4th - 8th is Teacher Appreciation Week! This is a great opportunity to reach out to THS teachers and let them know you appreciate the hard work being done daily to support your student’s success. Please consider sending a card or something special to show your appreciation!
Prom at Venue252 - May 9th
Prom is just around the corner at Venue 252. Guest forms - available in student services - are due no later than April 24th. Tickets go on sale April 27th.
Brave: Showing Up, Ready to Try
OSAS State Testing - 11th Grade Only
We are proud to share that the percentage of students meeting state benchmarks in English language arts has doubled since 2021. We look forward to continuing to see our students demonstrate their academic skills through these required benchmark assessments as we strive to reach “Level 3” status as a school on the state accountability report.
Beginning in April, juniors will take the Oregon State Assessment in their English class. Classroom instruction in English is paused to allow 11th grade students to complete required state testing without missing classroom instruction. Students who are absent during this protected time and who have not completed the state assessment will be required to test during elective classes until testing is complete.
AP Testing
Thurston is hosting our students who are AP testing on-site from May 4th through May 13th. Students who are testing need to report to student services at 7:30 a.m. Specific information has been shared with our AP students in google classroom.
Prepared: Ready for What Comes Next
Q3 Progress Reports
Friday, April 17th is a grading day and progress reports will be sent virtually to families. Progress reports for students earning a non-passing grade at the Quarter will be mailed home. As a reminder, please check your student's grades through parentvue on a regular basis.
Academic Support
Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 9:25 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. This is protected time for students to connect with their teachers around grades and assignment help or to address retakes and missing assignments. Ask your student how they plan to use this time, or which teacher they plan to connect with.
Thursday, April 29th is the final day to complete retakes or turn in any missing assignments.

Senior Meeting
We have a mandatory senior meeting on April 29th during advisory at 9:25 a.m. We will be distributing all of the information related to graduation at this meeting. Students should start making arrangements now to make sure they can attend.
Graduation Tickets
Senior parents, on April 29th your student will receive information on requesting graduation tickets. Please be watchful and return the necessary information as soon as possible. June 5th will be here before we know it and we want to be as prepared as possible. So please return your information to the school in a timely manner. We appreciate your cooperation.
Walking in Graduation
Students must meet all graduation requirements in order to walk in our graduation ceremony. Now is the time to start working to ensure that you are passing all classes. Check grades, reach out to teachers, and make a plan.
Personalized Learning Requirements for Graduation
All seniors are required to complete a post-high school plan and profile. Tasks are completed through Naviance. More information is available to students through the Class of 2026 google classroom. Please check in with your senior to ensure that they have submitted these required tasks for graduation. Counselors will begin reviewing submissions on May 1st.
Senior Post-High School Plans and Exit Interviews
Seniors are making big decisions regarding their post high school plans. More than 60% of seniors have completed the FAFSA to get accurate, individualized information on their eligibility for financial aid and scholarships. May 1st is “decision day” for many students planning to attend 4-year colleges or universities. As we move into the final 6 weeks of senior year, seniors will be called in for an exit interview with their counselor to review their post-high school plans. Please keep us updated on your post-high school plans, scholarships, and awards—submit updates as often as needed. 2026 THS Post-High School Plans
Scholarship Information

Thurston High School is a caring community dedicated to developing caring and brave graduates prepared for a future of their choosing.
Academic Supports
After School Tutoring Begins, 3:05 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Tuesdays / Thursdays Library
Starting this week, we will be offering tutoring after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the library from 3:05 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Information will be shared in advisory and announcements. Students are encouraged to come prepared with their assignments or homework to maximize the benefit of this time.
Academic Support, Wednesday / Thursdays, 9:25 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.
Students have the opportunity each week to sign-up to check-in with a teacher of their choosing on Wednesday or Thursday during academic support. We encourage students to ask questions, access assignments, and stay ahead by using this time effectively.
Schoolwide Grading Policies
Your student will be academically challenged at high school in many ways. Demonstrations of skills and learning may require any combination of labs, tests, homework, projects, and writing; each class will be different.
Students are responsible for ensuring that they are prepared each day, ready to learn, putting forth their best first attempt on all assignments. As a school, we are focused on seeing students show their understanding of course material, and allowing students the chance to show growth and improvement over time.
For this reason, we have two school-wide grading policies for all courses:
Students may complete re-takes on all summative assignments and assessments.
Assignments completed by the school-wide late-work deadlines will have the opportunity to receive full-credit.
Late-Work Deadlines are the Last B day of each Month - except for the semester change in January
