Halloween Parade Information:

The Hoover Elementary School Halloween parade was cancelled last year due to COVID. We are going to bring it back this year, but with a few modifications. These modifications should enable the parade to be a “Safe and Joyful” event for students, parents, and staff. These modifications should also ensure that there is more parking available for parents who wish to watch the parade in person. I will also work with Mr. Kelly to create a video of the parade that parents can enjoy from the safety of their homes.

In order to maximize parking and social distancing, we will implement two parades this year. Students in Kindergarten and First Grade will march in the parade that is scheduled to take place at 2:15 pm on Friday, October 29, 2021. Our Second, Third, and Fourth Grade students will march in the parade that is scheduled to take place at 2:45 pm on Friday, October 29, 2021.

The parade will take place on the blacktop if the weather is cooperative. Family members may line the recess yard in the designated areas (cones, caution tape, etc.). If it rains, the students will march inside the building, but we will not be able to invite parents and visitors into the building to watch the parades. Instead, we will create a video of the indoor parades to share with parents.

  • Costumes depicting any violence or horror as seen in the movies, on the news or in comics, are not permitted.
  • Weapons of any kind, including metal, plastic, wood, and cardboard, are not permitted.
  • Costumes should reflect age appropriate characters.

If you do not wish to have your child participate in one of the parades, or the classroom activities that follow, please complete the form below or write a note to your child’s teacher. Your child will be excused from the festivities beginning at 2:00 pm, and he/she will be provided with an alternate activity that is not related to this event. Additionally, if you do not want your child to participate in this event, you may pick your child up from school at 1:45 pm with no attendance penalty.

We request that all students bring their costumes to school in a bag with their name and their teacher’s name clearly marked on the bag. Students will be provided time in the classroom to dress in their costumes in preparation for the parade.

Additional HALLOWEEN Parade Information

In order to help create a “Safe and Joyful” parade experience for everyone, the following procedures will be implemented:

1. Parents/Guardians and community members who plan on watching the parade will do so in the back of the school. No visitors will be permitted in the classrooms before or after the parade.

2. Weather permitting, additional parking will be available on the grassy area in front of the school.

3. Only those parents who are assisting with classroom celebrations will be permitted into the building. Teachers will notify those parents and provide the office staff with a list of parents who will assist with the classroom celebrations.

4. If the weather conditions are poor, and the outdoor parades need to be cancelled, a decision will be made by 8:00 am on October 29, 2021. This decision will be published via the Parent Link program and the Herbert Hoover web site. In the event of a cancellation, the parade will not be rescheduled. Students will march in an indoor parade, and a video of this parade will be made available to parents. Students will have their scheduled classroom activities/celebrations on October 29 regardless of the weather conditions.

5. In the past, many parents have signed their students out of school after the parade. This has sometimes disrupted our dismissal. Many of our students will be concluding the day with a classroom party, so we are strongly encouraging our parents to allow their children to go home as usual on October 29, 2021 (Bus, Neshaminy Kids Club, Car Rider, etc.).

6. Our PTO has scheduled a fun, family themed, Trunk or Treat program at our school on the evening of October 29.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation with these procedures. Our concern is for the safety and well being of our students, parents, and staff members. We hope this is an enjoyable day for everyone.

Please Help Us To Keep Our Students Safe!

Due to a variety of allergy and dietary needs, please contact your child's teacher before sending in food or other items intended to be distributed to students in a classroom (e.g. birthday celebrations, class parties). Birthday treats should be prepackaged items from a store. They should not be homemade cookies. We can't allow students to share soft pretzels. The items must be prepackaged in order to keep everyone safe. Students should not share food at any time during school - even with a close friend. A seemingly harmless food item may unexpectedly contain allergens, or interact with other medical conditions. Depending on the health needs within a classroom, teachers may choose to avoid food-oriented experiences altogether. Please consider non-food treats as an alternative. Speak directly with your child's teacher. Do not send in any items until the teacher has responded and confirmed the appropriateness of your request. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.

Car Rider Tips and Tricks:

  • Please remain in your vehicle during the Morning Arrival.
  • We open the gate at 3:00 pm for the Afternoon Dismissal.
  • Please pull up as far as you can in the Car Rider Line.
  • Please do not block the back of the Car Rider Line.
  • Cars that arrive at 3:25 should be able to drive around the back of the line and start a new row.
  • Please do not bring dogs, cats, rabbits, snakes, alligators, or other animals to the Car Rider Dismissal Line.
  • Please do not honk your horn in the Car Rider Line.
  • If you experience any challenges in the Car Rider Line, please touch base with a staff member.
  • Please do not attempt to drive home until Dr. G. or a staff member, directs the line to begin moving.
  • Please work with us to create a "Safe and Joyful" Car Rider experience for students, parents, and staff.

Safety Procedures:

Here are some important reminders about our current Safety procedures:

  • Students and staff are required to wear masks in school and on the bus.
  • Parents who enter our building are required to wear a mask.
  • Students and staff do not need to wear masks when they are outside for Recess, PE, Arrival, Dismissal, and Special Activities.
  • Students should bring a water bottle to school every day.
  • Teachers are accepting donations of Recess Equipment (balls, jump ropes, etc.).
  • Students can bring pre-packaged items to distribute to classmates for birthday celebrations.
  • Parents should ensure that these types of snacks/treats do not include peanuts, etc.
  • Parents can donate clothing items and coats to Mrs. White (School Nurse) for other students to use.

As you know, we are all living through a very challenging time in our nation's history. All of the procedures listed above could change at any time. I'll keep you posted.

What is the E.S.A.P. Team?

The E.S.A.P. Team is the Elementary School Assistance Program. The Team consists of teachers, the Reading Specialists, the School Counselors, the School Nurse, the MTSS Interventionist, the School Psychologist, and Dr. Glennon. The Team's mission is to help students experience success academically and behaviorally at Hoover. If you feel that your child might need additional support in these areas, please discuss those concerns with your child's teacher. Your child's teacher can tell you more about how the E.S.A.P. Team may be able to help your child to experience greater success in school.
