This Thursday, October 16th, Lincoln Middle School will participate in the Great ShakeOut, a statewide earthquake preparedness drill. During the drill, students and staff will “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” to practice how to stay safe during an earthquake.

These drills help ensure that everyone knows what to do in the event of an emergency and can respond calmly and safely. We encourage families to take a moment at home to review your own emergency plans and discuss how to stay prepared.

Thank you for helping us keep safety a top priority at Lincoln!

Coming Soon

At Lincoln Middle School, we’re committed to creating a learning environment where every student can thrive—academically, socially, and emotionally. Beginning November 3, 2025, we will launch the Yondr Phone-Free Schools Program—a proven “away-for-the-day” approach designed to support student focus, well-being, and connection by removing mobile phone distractions during the school day.

For over a decade, Yondr has partnered with schools across all 50 states and more than 35 countries to help build healthier, more engaging school cultures. Their pouch-based program, combined with hands-on guidance and dedicated support, has led to impressive results:

86% of schools reported improved safety and student wellness

84% saw increased classroom engagement

68% experienced academic gains

44% reduced behavioral referrals

How the Program Works

Each student will receive a Yondr pouch—a secure, lockable case for storing personal devices. Students are responsible for bringing their pouch to and from school each day and keeping it in good condition.

Upon arrival: Students will power off their phones, AirPods, and smartwatches (or switch them to airplane mode), place them in their pouch, and lock it during their first-period class.

During the day: Students will keep the locked pouch in their backpack or locker.

At dismissal: Students will unlock their pouches at designated stations to retrieve their devices.

This process is quick, simple, and will be supervised by staff as part of our daily routine.

Staying Connected

Student safety remains our top priority. In the event of an emergency, we will follow our standard safety protocols. If you need to reach your child during the school day, please contact our main office at 310-393-9227.

Family Information Webinar

We know that change takes partnership, and we’re here to support a smooth transition for all families. Please join us for an informational webinar on Thursday, October 16th, at 6:30 PM (zoom) to learn more about the Yondr program and ask any questions you may have.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to create a focused, connected, and positive learning environment for every student.

Culturally Responsive Teaching

In Science, students explored the concept of biodiversity by studying local ecosystems and learning how native plants support our environment here in Santa Monica. As part of their learning, students created and planted seed balls using native plant species—connecting science to their own community and local environment. This hands-on experience not only deepened students’ understanding of biodiversity but also fostered a sense of belonging, stewardship, and connection to place—key elements of culturally responsive teach
