The Dawg Dispatch is our weekly snapshot of life as a Bulldawg, straight facts, clear wins, and what’s next, so families and staff can pull in the same direction. It reflects our mission:
“The mission of the Aberdeen School District is to inspire ALL students to become problem-solvers, lifelong learners, and productive members of society.”
💙🐾 Happy Valentine’s Day from Dr. Smith! 🐾💙
Dr. Smith would like to wish all of our students, staff, families, and community members a very happy Valentine’s Day!
Earlier today, Dr. Smith attended the Valentine’s Day Sneaker Ball at Aberdeen Elementary, hosted by the Aberdeen Elementary School PTO, where students and staff celebrated with style, energy, and plenty of smiles. Events like these remind us how special our school community truly is.
Aberdeen School District is built on care, commitment, and strong relationships. We are grateful for the heart our educators put into their work each day and for the support our families show our schools.
Thank you for being part of the Bulldawg family. We appreciate you today and every day. 💙🐾

🌕🏀 Belle-Shivers Middle School Science Boot Camp in Action! 🏀🌕
Our 8th graders took learning to the next level during Science Boot Camp by modeling the phases of the Moon using a basketball!
By becoming the Earth and using the ball as the Moon, students explored how light from the “Sun” creates each phase. Hands-on learning + movement + teamwork = science that sticks!
Who knew a basketball could help us understand the universe?

AES Learning Walk in Action!
Aberdeen Elementary School recently hosted a Learning Walk, providing an opportunity for district leaders and educators to visit classrooms and observe teaching and learning in real time. Throughout the building, students were actively engaged in meaningful lessons, collaborative discussions, and hands-on activities that support academic growth.
The Learning Walk highlighted AES’s commitment to high-quality instruction, student engagement, and continuous improvement. We are proud of our teachers and students for creating dynamic learning environments where excellence is evident every day.

Aberdeen High School Hosts Mu Alpha Theta Induction Ceremony
Aberdeen High School recently celebrated academic excellence during its Mu Alpha Theta Induction Ceremony, recognizing students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in mathematics. Mu Alpha Theta is a prestigious national mathematics honor society that promotes scholarship, leadership, and a commitment to continued learning in the field of math.
Family members, faculty, and peers gathered to honor these students for their hard work, discipline, and dedication to mastering a subject that demands both precision and perseverance. Membership in Mu Alpha Theta is not given lightly; it reflects consistent academic success and a willingness to go above and beyond in the classroom.
We are proud of these students for setting the standard and representing the very best of Aberdeen High School. Their commitment to excellence today prepares them for success tomorrow.
Journalism Students Celebrate Valentine’s Day with Sip, Paint, and Poetry
Ms. Kelly’s Theater 1 and Broadcast Journalism classes brought creativity to life with a Valentine’s Day “Sip and Paint” paired with a lively poetry slam. The classroom was filled with imagination as students painted original artwork while sharing spoken-word pieces centered around love, friendship, and self-expression.
The activity gave students an opportunity to step beyond traditional assignments and explore storytelling in new ways. From heartfelt poems to lighthearted humor, each student found a voice and a canvas to match. Events like this remind us that strong communication skills aren’t just built through textbooks—they’re developed through creativity, confidence, and courage to share.
It was a meaningful way to celebrate the holiday while strengthening presentation skills and encouraging artistic expression. We’re proud of Ms. Kelly and her students for continuing to make learning engaging and memorable.
Government Students Attend Live Chancery Court Hearing
Coach Spann’s Government students recently had a firsthand look at the judicial system in action as they attended the Chancery Court hearing of Trinidad Chambliss v. NCAA on Thursday, February 12, in Pittsboro, Mississippi.
Chambliss filed suit against the NCAA seeking an additional year of playing eligibility at Ole Miss. During the hearing, the court granted an injunction, allowing him to compete for another year. For students studying government and the legal process, witnessing a real case unfold in a courtroom setting brought their lessons to life in a powerful way.
Experiences like this go beyond the textbook. Observing legal arguments, court procedures, and a judicial ruling in real time provides a deeper understanding of how our system works and the impact of court decisions.
We are proud of Coach Spann and his students for taking advantage of this meaningful learning opportunity. Students can be seen in the photo during the hearing.

Kindergarten Students Learn About the Winter Olympics
Mrs. Williamson and Mrs. Dyess’s kindergarten classes had an exciting day learning about the Winter Olympics. Students began by watching a video highlighting the winter sports and learning about the events Team USA competes in. It was a great introduction to the spirit of competition, teamwork, and representing your country with pride.
Before jumping into their own activity, the class participated in a winter sports movement workout, getting their bodies moving just like real Olympic athletes. Then came the main event — students raced their penguins across “ice blocks” using straws to blow them to the finish line. The “ice” was made from styrofoam, adding a creative touch to the hands-on experience.
The classroom was filled with excitement as students cheered one another on and celebrated each race. It was a fun, engaging way to combine learning, movement, and teamwork — and a reminder that even our youngest Bulldawgs are building school spirit and sportsmanship.
Why Parent Engagement Matters
In the Aberdeen School District, we know one thing for certain: students do better when families and schools work together. Education has always been a partnership here, and parent engagement plays a key role in student success.
Parent engagement doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s about staying connected, setting expectations, and showing students that school matters, at home and at school.
What Engagement Makes Possible
Student Success
When parents stay involved, students are more motivated, more confident, and more likely to succeed academically.
Better Attendance & Behavior
Consistent communication between families and schools helps students build good habits, showing up, staying focused, and making positive choices.
Stronger School Community
Engaged parents help create schools that feel welcoming and supportive. When families participate, students feel a stronger sense of belonging.
Shared Accountability
When parents and educators are aligned, students understand that expectations matter everywhere, not just in the classroom.
Every Effort Counts
Parent engagement looks different for every family. Whether it’s checking grades, talking about the school day, reading messages from the school, or attending events when possible, every effort makes a difference.
When families and schools work together, students thrive. That’s the Aberdeen way, and it’s how we’ll continue building success for every child.
Aberdeen School District is hosting a Job Fair, and we invite our community to come explore the opportunities available within our schools.
We are looking for dedicated individuals who are ready to make a difference in the lives of our students. From certified positions to support staff roles, every job in our district plays a part in shaping the future of our Bulldawgs.
If you’re passionate about education, committed to service, and ready to be part of something meaningful, we encourage you to join us. Come learn more about our openings, meet district representatives, and see how you can become part of the Aberdeen family.
We look forward to seeing you there!
