Meet the Administration Team- Ms. Johnson, Principal.

Mrs. Johnson is thrilled to be joining the amazing team at Hellstern Middle School! Before coming to Hellstern, she served as an assistant principal at Southwest Junior High for 7 years and spent 13 years at Kirksey Middle School in Rogers as a teacher and instructional coach. She is passionate about helping students take ownership of their learning by empowering them to understand where they are in the learning process and identify the steps they need to grow. Her goal is to ensure that the skills students develop at Hellstern will serve them well beyond the classroom.

Outside of school, Mrs. Johnson and her husband stay busy keeping up with their three children, Jevin, Emerie, and Zane, who are active in a variety of sports. When she’s not cheering from the sidelines, she enjoys reading, listening to true crime podcasts, and running. She’s currently training for a half marathon later this year.

Meet the Administration Team- Mr. Sennett

Hello! My name is Aurelian Sennett, and I am a new Assistant Principal at Hellstern Middle School! I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to work alongside the incredible students here and be a part of the Hellstern family. Prior to joining Hellstern, I spent four years teaching at Pea Ridge High School, followed by a year as an Instructional Facilitator at Don Tyson School of Innovation (DTSOI). Following that, I served as an Assistant Principal for six years at DTSOI. Outside of school, my world revolves around my family—my wonderful wife, Crystal, and our two boys, Cooper and Grant. We love spending time outdoors and making lasting memories with close friends.

  • the faculty parking lot on the East side of the building
  • the lot directly in front of the building
  • the Storms Orthodontics parking lot

Please DO NOT park in our grassy areas.

Our goal is to post teams on our front windows by 5pm on Friday, August 1st. We will not post student names, we will post ID numbers (same as lunch number). On August 3rd, students will get their team and advisor's name at tents on the 6th grade side (West corner) and 7th grade side (East corner). As always, schedules will not be given until the first day of school.

Students will then enter through the East & West doors (where car-riders are dropped off). All guests will then EXIT through the front entrance.

Once in the building, first you can:

  • Practice your combination, make a goal to unlock it three times in a row (students will have PLENTY of time to do this during the first week of school).
  • Decorate your locker (no tape or stickers - magnetic or cling only).
  • Walk the halls and familiarize yourself with the facility.

Once you visit your locker, be sure to stop by the cafeteria for the following:

  • Complete your child's digital Acceptable Use Agreement (AUA) form so he/she can get his/her Chromebook when school starts (or do this early at home)
  • Purchase Chromebook insurance (optional, but recommended) for $20
  • Complete a meal application for the new school year (or do this early at home)
  • Ask your questions about band
  • Buy some PTO gear AND purchase a PTO sponsorship
  • Get bus route information (pending routes being complete); click on "Register Your Student for BusQuest"
  • Get an application for student council
  • Put money on your child's lunch account
  • The nurse will be available to answer questions or to drop off medication.

PTO will be hosting two short meetings in the library. They will be sharing information at 1:30 & 2:15pm.

***If you can't make it on Sunday - don't worry!!! Team lists will be posted at the front of our building. Your student will have plenty of time to practice using his/her locker during the first week of school. You will also have every opportunity to purchase what you may need or ask questions. We will not be able to accept visitors the week before school starts as teachers will be VERY busy preparing for our Heroes arrival!

Introducing Empower! Our New Standards-Based Grading System

This year, Hellstern Middle School is excited to announce the adoption of Empower, a new learning management system designed to enhance our commitment to standards-based learning. Empower will serve as our primary gradebook, providing a clear and comprehensive view of your child's progress against specific learning standards. This initial year, all teachers will be utilizing Empower to communicate grades to both students and parents, ensuring consistent and transparent feedback. To learn more and see Empower in action, please plan to stop by our information session at the upcoming locker day! We will offer two sessions on Locker day, 1:00pm and 2:45pm in the Library at HMS.

School Supply List

Below is the general school list for all students. Each team creates a school supply list of additional team-specific supplies. When you learn your team, you can click here to get the list for that team (this list will not be updated until August 3rd). Our goal is to have teams posted by 5pm on Friday, August 1st. We will also be sharing assigned teams at the locker day event on August 3rd (1-3pm). Students may have supplies needed for elective classes.

Cell Phones at Hellstern

Parents,

Learning is the priority at Hellstern. We want engaged learners that are not distracted by a device. At Hellstern, we have always held the expectation that phones are to be turned off and kept in a student's locker. A student is always welcome to request use of a phone, if he/she explains the need to our teachers. Students are also allowed to check phones at 3:30, once dismissal has started. It is also now state law for students to not have cell phones and smart watches during the school day.

We have experienced an increase in distracted behaviors during class time when students have access to smart watches. Our recommendation is to leave wireless earbuds/airpods, smart watches, and personal electronics at home. If your child bring them to school, they must be kept in their locker turned off. Every year, students lose these expensive devices. Wired headphones are on the school supply list for use in class. Our rules and procedures reflecting these beliefs are in our student handbook, which you will be receiving electronically.

Our goal is for students to be communicating with each other and with adults in face-to-face conversations. These skills are important for students in these critical "tween" years to practice and use daily.

Dress Code

A student’s appearance and dress should reflect an acceptable common standard in the interest of decency, cleanliness, safety, health, and learning.

The following guidelines should be followed:

  1. All students are required to wear their team-specific (School ISSUED) lanyard and student ID at all times while on the HMS school campus.

  2. Hats and hoodies pulled over head shall not be worn in the building.

  3. All shirts must have a shoulder strap at least the width of the plastic ID case worn on lanyards (approximately 3 inches).

  4. Shorts, skirts, dresses, and holes in jeans must be finger length. If the hem of your "bottoms" end within the palm of your hand, they are too short. Sleepwear is not permitted (pajama bottoms, houseshoes, etc...)

  5. Clothing that reveals undergarments, a bare midriff or cleavage will not be permitted.

  6. Clothing which by color, design or symbol is deemed suggestive, racist, violent, vulgar, or is interpreted as promoting tobacco, drug, or alcohol use, are not to be worn to school.

  7. No student is to wear, carry, or display apparel deemed gang-related (“sagging” pants, head rags, bandanas, chains, spiked or studded jewelry), or exhibit behavior or gestures which symbolize gang membership.

  8. A student’s appearance and dress shall not disrupt or contribute to disruption of the educational process or interfere with rights or opportunities of others to learn or teach.
