Physical Education & Sport Week Interviews
May 1 through May 7 is National Physical Education and Sport Week! For the occasion, we took some time to speak with Mr. Territo, Coach Welch, and Mr. Downs about physical education at EVCS.
Interview with Mr. Territo at Days Park
A: My favorite thing about being a Physical Educator is seeing students gain confidence and learn new skills through practice and working together.
Q: What can students expect to learn in your class?
A: In PE, students will learn skills they can use for a lifetime. Students will learn how live a healthy lifestyle, how to work effectively towards a common goal as a team, and fitness activities they can rely on for a lifetime such as golf - which you can play well into your 90s!
Interview with Coach Welch & Mr. Downs at Hertel
A (Welch): I love the fact that I get to teach all the sports that I enjoy to kids that are attending EVCS while they learn lifelong skills that they can take outside of school!
A (Downs): Whether it is through classroom engagement or intramurals, I really enjoy promoting lifetime activities and sportsmanship.
Q: What can students expect to learn in your class?
A (Welch): We really work with students to grow skills in sportsmanship as part of their lifelong skillset. And we are big on exposing students to a lot of activities they might not have learned about or participated outside of school such as lacrosse and golf. With us exploring such a wide variety of activities and sports, we look to spark interest for students to engage with sports outside of EVCS as well.
A (Downs): Students can learn about coordination and movement of their bodies, explore a wide range of sports and opportunities to engage with these sports, and core skills such as cooperation amongst each other. We like to teach them how they might engage with athletics, sports, and activities outside in their own neighborhoods as well.
