Growing Healthy Kids! π§πΏπ±βπ΅π¦
Dear Valhalla Families,
My name is Eva Solis, and I will be the new Garden Educator at our beautiful Valhalla school garden. I am so excited to be bringing the non-profit Growing Healthy Kids (GHK) to Valhalla starting next week! I've been a proud Valhalla parent and garden volunteer for the past 6 years and I am so happy to stay with this wonderful community even though my son will move on to middle school next year.
This outdoor education program will take our current garden education to the next level by teaching next generation science standards, nutrition lessons and lots of hands-on exploration. Please find out everything about GHK at https://growinghealthykidsbayarea.org
The GHK curriculum runs in three 4-week sessions. It will begin with TK-2nd grades and then transition to 3rd-5th grades right after. The program includes science in the garden in fall and spring and cooking/ nutrition lessons in winter.
How can you get involved? Volunteer, Help, Donate and/or Shop:
Volunteer during your childβs garden class (30-60 minutes depending on grade level). Please reach out to your childβs teacher to find out when they are scheduled to head to the garden.
Help us create a new outdoor classroom in the empty lot behind the office! Please sign up for the Pleasant Hill Community Service Day on Saturday, September 23 at www.pleasanthillca.org/csd
Donate items or your time (reach out to ghkvalhalla@gmail.com)
We are currently in need of
Tree stumps for seating
Umbrellas to shade the kids and myself
Somebody skilled in switching irrigation from drip to sprinklers (we provide materials)
Shop at Sloats during Growing Up Green weeks (Sept. 1-10) for us to receive 10% of your purchase as a donation. Please click on the flyer here.
