CATCHING UP WITH... Mrs. Edmonston
Dear Coyote Families,
We’ve had another wonderful week of learning and leadership at Canyon View Elementary! On Wednesday, our students did an excellent job practicing safety during our "Duck, Cover, and Hold" earthquake drill. The highlight of our week, however, took place on Thursday evening when CVES was featured at the Poway Unified School District Board of Trustees Meeting. Our Student Council President, Atharv Paul, and Co-Vice Presidents, Dannie Allen and Lizzy Monahan, represented our school with pride as they presented an update on the many wonderful initiatives happening on our campus.
We are looking forward to a fabulous week ahead, which begins with a day of professional growth for our teachers on Monday while students enjoy the day off. When we return on Tuesday, we will dive into The Great Kindness Challenge. Led by our counselor, Mrs. Cedillo, this week will be filled with Spirit Days and special opportunities for our Coyotes to practice intentional acts of kindness. To round out the week, our talented third graders will present their choral music performance of Charlotte's Web to both student and parent audiences.
Let’s make it a GREAT week!
Warmly,
Erica Edmonston
Principal, Canyon View Elementary School

Garden Volunteers Needed
This is a fun, flexible way to get involved. Volunteers will:
- Present short, hands-on garden lessons (about 20 minutes) to students.
- No experience necessary! You don't need to be a garden pro or a certified teacher! We provide the materials.
- The days and times are flexible and will be coordinated individually with you and the teachers.
- All volunteers must be cleared through the school/district system. We'd love to have Level 2 volunteers who are cleared to work independently with groups, but we can happily accommodate Level 1 volunteers as well!
Interested in helping our school garden thrive? Contact Terri at terri.l.lane@gmail.com or call 619-861-6427.

That is My Dream!, written Langston Hughes & illustrated by Daniel Miyares
The life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is observed on the third Monday in January throughout most of the United States. Even if you don’t formally celebrate or commemorate Dr. King, the holiday provides an opportunity to talk about important values he emphasized like peace and racial and cultural equality, and think about simple ways that kids can help keep his dreams and wisdom alive. “That is My Dream!” features stunning watercolors by Daniel Miyares that illuminate Langston Hughes’s renowned poem, “Dream Variation.” As a young boy navigates life dominated by segregation and discrimination, he dreams of a brighter tomorrow.
Interested in Visiting or Volunteering at Canyon View?
We love our volunteers! To get started, complete the Level 1 Volunteer Application for Canyon View Elementary at bit.ly/CVESVolunteer or click here (includes TB clearance and Megan’s Law check).
Some roles—like coaching, robotics, or working with students unsupervised—require Level 2 clearance. To obtain or renew Level 2 status, complete the Level 1 steps first, then request a Level 2 form from our office and complete fingerprinting at the PUSD District Office.
If you are visiting campus for a short time—such as attending an assembly, performance, class party or meeting—you do not need to register as a volunteer; simply check in at the front office as a visitor. Classroom visitors need to be scheduled in advance with both the office and the classroom teacher.
