A Letter From Head of School Carole McCullough A Letter From Head of School Carole McCullough

Hello SJCA Families,

Students will have tutoring available to them to reinforce concepts and curriculum that is necessary for success in future grades.

If a scholar was not proficient on the most recent Florida FAST assessment in ELA or Math, they can take advantage of the tutoring time to review concepts and master course content that can assist them in performing successfully in their academic courses, but also on the mandatory state assessments.

For our community members, the public, and all stakeholders, the Florida Department of Education school evaluation system (School Grades) is an annual metric that is widely published and impacts how our school is viewed, impacts funding, and affects our charter school status. Even though our curriculum doesn’t teach to the test, our scholars’ performance on the mandatory state assessments directly impacts the school grade as the majority of the components of the school grade are based on proficiency on the mandatory state assessments as well as each scholar’s growth on the assessments from school year to school year.

The tutoring will be led by our teachers and will reinforce concepts and content as well as preparing your scholar for future success on the assessments and academics.

-Carole McCullough, Head of School

'Fair Day' Update 'Fair Day' Update

To follow the Clay County School District schedule and increase instructional time after weather-induced cancelations, the SJCA Board of Directors voted to make April 11, also known as Fair Day, a regular school day. We understand some families have made plans, as a result, absences on this day will be excused.

Reminder of Check Out Times Reminder of Check Out Times

Please remember that scholars cannot be picked up after 2:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and cannot be picked up after Noon on Wednesday. This rule is in place to keep extra cars from entering the parking lot during our busy carline times.

Picking Up Your Scholars After School Picking Up Your Scholars After School

Parents, if you're picking up your scholars from an after school event, please make the effort to park in a parking space. Do not "park" or sit idle along the curbs in the thru-traffic area. It creates an unsafe environment for you and scholars.

Classroom Corner Classroom Corner

On Monday February 10th, Mr. Coleman's 9th grade Biology scholars performed their personal blood A/B/O/Rh testing, in support of Human Heredity. The kits were purchased from Flinn Scientific and included all needed materials.

The nurses from the clinic volunteered to oversee proper handling/disposal techniques of exposed blood/needles and to perform the finger sticks, and the scholars completed testing their samples.

After the sera were applied, the nurses and Mr. Coleman interpreted the results and sent the cards home in a sealed bag for careful storage by parents.

This was an opportunity to demonstrate real-world relevance to topics being studied, and to provide something of value to scholars and parents.

It was absolutely well-received, the scholars remarked that it was fun and informative and is definitely worthwhile to include in future Biology classes.
