Happy Holidays from the Schweitzer Family! Happy Holidays from the Schweitzer Family!

I first want to thank everyone from the Schweitzer community for all that they have done to make the holidays special for students and families within our own Schweitzer community. My office and the guidance office was filled to the brim with holiday gift donations thanks to staff and families that adopted families within our own school community. We also had one of our custodians, Hugh Cooperman, that endured a devastating fire that unfortunately took his home. Our staff and local community raised thousands of dollars for the family through GoFundMe, local school collections, and union collections. It is during these unexpected times that our friends and neighbors need us the most. Thank you to our school community for helping so many close to us during this holiday season. Best wishes for a safe and relaxing 2020!

Holiday Help Holiday Help

The above photo includes 4 staff members that are huge part of our Holiday Help program at Albert Schweitzer (Kelly Moyer, Danielle Dyas, Charlene Rugg, and Mary Ellen Pulak). This program allows Schweitzer staff members and families to adopt a family to purchase gifts for. Our school community is giving back to our own families including 28 Schweitzer students and 11 families.
This second picture is taken of our Student Ambassadors at Albert Schweitzer that raised almost $1,000 to add to our gift giving to our Schweitzer families. They raise money each morning leading up to the holidays. They then went shopping with Mrs. Mary Ellen Pulak at Target for a variety of gifts including pajamas, blankets, and gifts the children in the families asked for. Students then meet during their recess time to wrap all the gifts.

The students and staff at Albert Schweitzer Elementary participated in a school-wide Sing-A-Long on Friday, December 20th. Mrs. Montalvo and Mr. Wells were the MCs of the festive event. We had students and staff sing, play instruments, and even build a real-life Olaf! The staff even joined in at the end to do a spoof on 'Let it Go' and sang 'Let Us Go!' it was a magical afternoon where everyone became a part of the event.

Winter Break Reading Challenge Winter Break Reading Challenge

Families,

Winter break is a time to rest and recharge for our students and teachers. Over the winter break, we would like to continue to nurture our readers and encourage them to continue their normal reading routine, even if they aren’t in school every day. The Schweitzer Lions Literacy Challenge has lots of mini-challenges for our younger and older readers to complete. If students complete five challenges in a row, they will be entered into a raffle to win a $10 school store gift card (3 winners total). If students complete ALL challenges on their board, they will be invited to a Hot Cocoa Read-In hosted by Ms. d’Entremont on Monday January 6th. This challenge has a hard due date of Friday January 3rd. Please make sure you’ve signed the challenge board and your child submits it to his/her teacher by that date. Happy reading!!

The 3rd and 4th grade orchestra along with the 4th grade Chorus and Neshaminy Kids Club sang to families to bring the holidays alive on Monday, December 16th. Special thanks to Mrs. Carly Lewis and Mrs. Lizz Montalvo for leading the students in a beautiful winter concert!

CARES Family Craft Night CARES Family Craft Night

On Wednesday, December 4th, students and families were invited to a free craft night to create several winter crafts to be used as decorations or gifts. There were many craft stations set up around the cafeteria, and families were able to make their way around to the various craft stations to “Make and Take” crafts for home. Hot chocolate was available for all, and it was a festive way to begin the December holiday season! To give back, families also brought non-perishable food items that will be donated to Family Services of Bucks County Food Pantry.

Pass the Pie and Poetry! Pass the Pie and Poetry!

On November 26th, the students in Stacey Flynn’s first grade class celebrated Thanksgiving poetry with family and friends. Since September, they have been working hard to “act out the words with their voice”. The celebration highlighted all of the work that they have been doing to develop fluency and expression skills. Each group of students practiced reading their poem then added actions that helped convey the meaning. The class celebrated all of their hard work by sharing Thanksgiving desserts baked fresh that morning by the first graders in G-6!

This is a reminder that students should not be dropped off at Albert Schweitzer before 8:50 a.m. every day. If you drop your child off before then, there is no adult supervision outside of our school building. For the safety of your children, please do not drop off and leave your child before 8:50 a.m. Doors open promptly at that time.

Also, car riders are to get out on the passengers side of the car. No children should be getting out of the vehicle on the driver's side of the vehicle. This is to ensure the safety of all students.

If you want to walk your children up to the door, you need to enter the walker door at the horseshoe in the front of the building. No cars are to park in the back and then walk children up to the back doors. Thank you for helping keep our children safe.
